Luncheon Programs by Ed Murphy
Our program for November 12th was THS Head Football Coach Craig Reucker. Coach Reucker has been a head coach for 35 years (he was in Redmond and Glencoe before Tigard), and in two of those years his team won state championships. Mr. Reuker also taught math for 38 years. Mr. Reuker said he has been impressed with the Tigard players, noting their maturity and leadership qualities. He talked about individual players and opposing teams, particularly the upcoming game on 11/13 with Sheldon (which, incidentally, Tigard lost, 71 to 26. Ouch!). The coach says he strives to help young people learn that the world is bigger than themselves.

Ramzan Magomedov was Honored Rotarian of the Week. Ramzan, an investment manager, has been a club member since 2000. Ramzan is a 1st generation American, who came to this country from Chechnya with $100 in his pocket and limited English skills. He has been in the United States for 17 years now, and last spring became a US Citizen. Last year he purchased the company for which he had been working, Griffon May, Inc. Ramzan is a strong believer in community involvement, and serves on several boards. | New member proposed by Ed Murphy
Debi Mollahon, the new CEO of the Tigard Chamber of Commerce, has been proposed for membership by Jim Strickler. Debi has been active in other non-profit organizations, including Northwest Children's Outreach and Luke-Dorf, Inc. A Tigard Times article states "Mollahan, a native Oregonian raised in Hillsboro, has worked in various
aspects of the business world, including the nonprofit world,
telecommunications and high-tech industries, and the U.S. Navy, where
she served as a Naval Lieutenant in the Supply Corps for more than
eight years." The Board of Directors reviewed her nomination at its meeting on November 12th, and authorized her name to be published in the Bulletin. Her name will be published only
once. If
you have any concerns about admitting Debi into the
Tigard Rotary Club, please let President Ed Murphy or Membership Services Chairperson Amy Phillips know by November 23rd.

Sharon Schwinghammer learned that the Tigard Club, in partnership with the Tualatin and Tigard Breakfast Clubs, has received a matching grant for $902 from "District Simplified Grant" funds for our Dictionary project. | Looking For Host Families by Ed Murphy
If you would like to host Julia Schroeder, our exchange student from Germany, or know someone who might be interested, please contact Cliff Elling as soon as possible. Typically each family hosts 3-4 months, but right now, Cliff is looking for a family to host Julia just for the month of December. This is a great opportunity to share the holiday season with an exchange student. Call Cliff at 503-972-1941.
| Polio Awareness Event by Ed Murphy
On November 15th, the club hosted the showing of "The Final Inch", a documentary movie about the arduous efforts to eradicate polio in the few places in the world where it remains a threat. The program included a short talk by polio survivor Lane Koniak. Other polio survivors attended the event as well, and shared their stories. We learned that polio can strike people who had the disease as children much later in their lives, a condition they refer to as "post-polio". Several club members and their spouses attended the event.
| Board awards funds by Ed Murphy
The Board of Directors approved a $300 donation towards the refurbishing and expanding Monika's House, a battered women's shelter in Washington County. The total cost of the project will be about $3000. Several clubs in Washington County participated in this project, so the dedication plaque is going to say - "Sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of Washington County".
The Board also approved paying for the costs of transporting about 350 Tigard High School students and 20-25 teachers to and from the Medical Teams International facilities on November 19th, which is something we have done for the last two years. The cost will be approximately $500. This represents a great partnership between THS, Medical Teams International, and Rotary.

| A PHF Award makes a wonderful gift! by Ed Murphy
Are you close to making your spouse a Paul Harris Fellow? Here's a great idea for a Christmas present: Work with Doug Lusk to complete the requirements and paperwork, and we will award the PHF at the Holiday Party on December 8th. Make it a surprise! It would be a thoughtful and meaningful gift. Do it soon, though, so Doug can order the PHF certificate and pin.
