2009-2010 Membership Workshops
submitted by Ray Guy and Bill Charnetski

We must continue to recruit, develop and retain qualified members in order to carry out the many local and international service projects that make NOTL Rotary a great organization.  The following workshops are scheduled for 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm and will include a light dinner or snacks:

Monday, November 16th for Areas 1/2/3/4/5, at Mohawk College in Hamilton.

Wednesday, November 18th for areas 9/10/11/12/13/14 at Eagle House in Williamsville

Tuesday November 24th for areas 6/7/8 at Niagara College in Niagara on the Lake

Tuesday December 1st for areas 15/16/17 at Holiday Valley in Ellicottville

AGENDA (will be similar at each session, so if you are unable to attend the closest, then do a 'make-up' at one of the others) includes:

    1. How individual clubs succeeded and best practices used.

    2. How multi-club promotion works and how to develop public promotional techniques.

    3. How does new member orientation ensure retention?

Cost is $15.00 (USD or CDN) depending on the location.  Reservation by e-mail to ray.guy@cogeco.ca

(include "Rotary Membership Workshops" in the subject line), or by telephone to 905-468-5362.

November is Foundation Month
by Hobin, Kate

November is Rotary Foundation Month. It's often during this month that every Club President and Club Foundation Chair makes a major pitch to strive to achieve the club's Foundation goal. Each year our district shows the Rotary world what a district can do in raising funds for Our Foundation. Last year Rotarians and clubs in District 7090 contributed in excess of $467,958 to the Rotary Foundation. In anticipation of each club reaching their stated goal for this Rotary year we should once again hit "a home run" on June 30th 2010.

It is important to make the month of November one in which the work of the Foundation is brought to the attention of members and it should be the month which generates a strong response toward the club Foundation goals. Rotarians want to know about the good which accrues from their giving, and they usually also wish to witness the work of their own club in using Foundation funds to accomplish club-based service work.

Many clubs within the district seek a club fundraising activity to complement the contributions made by individual members. These club events usually result in a Rotary Club contribution to the Foundation which is credited to the annual fund with the resultant recognition points used to stimulate further individual contributions.

Non-Rotarians can also give to the Foundation, and I have found that when others outside of Rotary learn about the work of our Foundation they are very impressed. It is that unrivaled network of Rotarians in over 33,300 Rotary clubs throughout the world which convinces others that all funds available do reach those in need.

The Rotary Foundation Benefactor and Bequest programs should not be forgotten. Assigning part of an estate to the Permanent Fund may not only be a meaningful way to give but it will also ensure the ongoing health of our Foundation.

November is the month to focus on the Rotary Foundation. Every Rotarian should strive to contribute something to the Rotary Foundation. However small your donation may be, it will Make A Difference in somebody's life - that someone you may never meet will thank Rotary for changing their life. There are so many in this world who need help, and our Foundation is a very sound investment for everyone! If you won't help, then who will? If not Now, then when?

Remember, The Future of our World is in your hands!

New Members
by Hobin, Kate

Bill Auchterlonie and John Boot have both recently transferred to our club from their respective clubs.  We had the pleasure of having both President Herman Fontyn and DG Suchak do the honours of welcoming them and presenting them with their membership certificates.  (left to right:  John Boot, Bill Auchterlonie, Herman Fontyn, DG Suchak)
