Membership survey used to set directon for club in 2011-2012

A recent survey of the club membership will be used by the board of directors as a basis for setting long range plans and goals for the upcoming year. In his comments to the membership, following his induction as club president Rene' Castilla said the club needs to "regain its rightful place as the service club in Irving." To accomplish this he plans to focus on strengthening fellowship, get members more involed with the club through active participation on committees, and use the web page, the internet, and e-mail to communicate with the membership as much as possible about the club and its activities.  
Irving-Las Colinas Rotary Club turns 75 next year.

Plans are under way to lay the foundation for a big bash celebrating the 75th anniversay of the Irving-Las Colinas Rotary Club in February, 2012. A 75th Anniversary Planning committee has been formed to put it all together. The Women of Rotary have formed a committee to join forces to make the 75th anniversary celebration a memorable event.  Ben Thomas has already put together memorabilia that traces  the history of the club back to 1937. It's an important mile stone in the history of the club.
Don Jensen Named Rotarian of the Year

Don Jensen has been named Rotarian of the Year for 2010-2011 for outstanding service to the club. Don serves on the Rotary Foundation Committee for the club and is an Assistant Governor for Rotary District 5810. Pat McCowen presented Don with the award durning June 30, 2011 meeting of the Irving Las Colinas Rotary Club

Club Hears Thankful Testimony from RYLA Campers

The emotions were high and the thanks were many from the Irving High School and MacArthur High School students who recently returned from camp RYLA's week-long leadership skills summer camp. The Irving Las Colinas Rotary sponsored six students--four from Irving High School and two from MacArthur High School. Each student spoke, some with emotions, about thieir experience at RYLA and how it changed their life. Each could not express enought their appreciation to the club for having been given this personal growth opportunity. RYLA campers are high school juniors who have excelled in one or more areas of extra-curriculur activity and have proven leadership skills. The Irving Las Colinas Rotary Club is limited to sponsoring six students. Last year 61 clubs in District 5810 recruited students from 80 area high schools for RYLA scholarships.

District Governor lays out vision for 2011-2012

Public relations and community awareness are two key goals that Rotary District 5810 in the coming year Governor Bud McBrayer told the members of the Irving Las Colinas Rotary Club Thursday, july 28, 2011. "We have to do a better job of telling the Rotary story," he said.

The Governor is making club visits to all Rotary Clubs in nine counties in District 5810 outling his vision of bringing in the next generation of Rotarians. He also announced the creation of the Boys & Girls Club  North Texas Campground, a charitable project establsihed by his wife Peggy McBrayer, also a Rotarian. The campsite is to provide impoverished children ages 6-18 years-ol with a "safe, positive place to learn and grow during after school hours.

The Governor also presented with club with a certificate of recognition for its 75 years of serve to the Irving community.  

Fire Chief Gives Overview of Irving Fire and Rescue

Irving Fire Chie Mario Molina gave club members an overview of the positive changes in the Irving Fire Department that have taken place in the Irving Fire Department since he has taken over a Fire Chief five years ago. Chief Molina described the Fire Department as having state of the are equipment, including policy changes that have brough efficiency to the Fire Department. Image
