Hello all,

The holidays are upon us!  Lots going on and lots to be thankful for.

Please e-mail me:web@eastbremertonrotary.org with anything you want on the website or in the bulletin.  Please get it to me by 2:00 pm FRIDAY.  E-mail only, please.  Thanks.  :)

Festival of Trees

Festival of Trees is upon us!  Please help Claudia out now!  Weds 11/18 is the last day to bring items.

I would appreciate it if you could each find one pink item to place under this years tree.  Ideas might include:
  •     Candles
  •     Stationery
  •     Vase
  •     Dishes
  •     Pink lotion
  •     Robe
  •     Nightgown
  •     Placemats
  •     Glasses
  •     sunglasses
  •     Purse
  •     Socks
  •     Fabric napkins
  •     Platter
  •     Mugs
  •     Basket
  •     Scrapbook
  •     Slippers
  •     Jewelry
  •     Pink stickers or scrapbooking paper
  •     Some tools even come in pink

The theme of the tree is IT'S A GIRL THING so you get the idea.  If you find anything you can bring it to me at any time.  Your item both big or small will add value to our tree.  This time of year would be a great time to look as these items might be more readily available during the spring.  It would be greatly appreciated if the men in the club would tell their significant others about this so they can be on the look out for these items.

Thank you so much, Claudia
From Our Treasurer

A couple of announcements from Our Esteemed Treasurer, Janet:

We have decided to award the excess Paul Harris Foundation points by raffle drawing. Raffle options will be available for the next two weeks.  A drawing ticket is $5 and each member is entitled to only one Raffle Drawing ticket.  The ticket stub will have a space for your name, the number of points you are purchasing and the cost of those points (just to make sure that you know what your commitment will be).  You can purchase 2 points for $1.  Points will available in $10 blocks.  You will not need to be present for us to draw your ticket and win.  The drawings will cease when a total of 10,000 points are awarded and $5,000 collected.

Please note that all club dues and outstanding invoices in your name must be paid in order for you to qualify for the drawing.

We have had at least one member who is in arrears mark their current dues check with "October-December 2009 Dues."  Please "Don't go there," says Treasurer Janet Heath.  We want to be fair to all concerned.  Janet does have an accounting of all outstanding invoices and each member with an invoice older than 60 days received a copy of that with a statement last quarter.

Let's build better friendships and increase our PHF member numbers at the same time!!
It's Bellringer time! December 5th

October Recap

Here are some highlights from October, courtesy of President Sue Shipley:

Last month we turned in a check to $9500 from The Bremerton Party.  ($1000 of it was seed money, the rest is pure beautiful profit!)  Thanks to all who helped.

Sadly, we had two resignations this week.  Barb Malich and Bill Benson.  We will miss them, and hope that they return to us as soon as possible.  Jerry LeTextier will step in to fill Bill's shoes on the Board as he was in that same position for the previous two years.  Thanks for stepping up, Jerry!

Silverdale Sunrise Rotary Club has partnered with us twice this year.  The first was to, once again, join us in our Dictionary Project.  The second was to contribute $1500 towards our Boys and Girls Club Project.  Many thanks to them.  They attended our October Board Meeting and invited us to join them at their annual Sweetheart Dinner/Auction in February.  There will be more information on this.  The proceeds will go to the Fred Hutch Project on cancer research.  It would be nice if we filled up a table to support them in their efforts, don't you think?

At the last weekely meeting, someone asked if we were going to freshen up Bachmann Park, located where Trenton Avenue meets the water in Manette.  Right now we have caution tape surrounding this landmark gazebo with our name on it.  At October Board meeting, the board voted to put money towards finishing it off.  The city has poured a new foundation.  Our part will be to  build the roof.  John Armstrong and Ron Pettygrove are heading up this project.

District Governer Alexander and his wife Marnee visited our club during the last week of October.  On Tuesday of that week, several board members enjoyed a social hour with them at The Patio.
November is Rotary Foundation Month

From PDG Brian Beagle:

November - Rotary Foundation Month

Each of you is in a leadership position in Rotary.  Part of accepting this responsibility is to set the example for others to follow.  This is important in every aspect of Rotary, but even more so when it comes to the support to the Rotary Foundation provided by our clubs.  Now is the time for each of us to set the example not just by making sure we have made our own contributions, but to also encourage the rest of our club members to join us.

An announcement made from the podium will only go so far, however.  To be most successful, we need to make the ask one on one.

Each year our District does a remarkable job of setting the bar for the amount we contribute.  But, we do so with less than 60% of our Rotarians making a contribution.  DG Alex has set a goal for the District this year to have "Every Rotarian Contributing Something".  Reach out to those who have not contributed in the past.  Find out why they haven't stepped up.  Maybe, they just haven't been asked.

If we are to meet our goals this year we need a major push for the balance of this month in focusing on the Foundation - with contributions lagging in every area, anything each of you can do to rally the troops would be appreciated.

Thanks for all you are doing,

Rotary Announcements

Here are the most recent Rotary announcements from our members:

Our annual Christmas party will be Sunday, Dec. 13th at the Norm Dicks Center. (Note that this is a change from a previous announcement)

If you are sponsoring a child or family in the Christmas Angel program, please see Sonny Loidhamer, Shauna at United Moving and Storage, or Doug Fairbanks.  The information on your child is now available.

Do not miss the upcoming opportunity to participate in the Paul Harris points raffle. For a $5 raffle ticket you can win a chance to purchase two Paul Harris dollars for every one dollar that you spend.  See Janet Heath for details.

It is also time to start bringing forth candidates for "Citizen of the Year."  This year the category is Environment/Ecology and the person to see is Jerry LeTexier.

The Olympic High Outreach Thanksgiving Dinner is scheduled for November 24.  Cris Larsen needs money, food, and willing hands.

Finally,  the Festival of Trees is coming. Volunteers will be putting lights on the tree on Nov. 19 or 20.  Decorating the tree is scheduled for 4:30 on November 24. Claudia Alves needs about five volunteers to help decorate and she also needs volunteers to help pack up the goodies under the tree after the Festival ends.

The 2010 District Leadership Training will be held in Port Angeles on February 20-21.  Location is the the Red Lion Inn.

Community Announcements

Here are the most recent community announcements from our members:

The Red Cross is partnering with other organizations to "Send Hunger Packing" in November. Food collected that month will be shared with all the local area food banks.  See Janet Heath for details.

It's time for "Toys for Tots."  Help Charlie Littman "put some smiles on these kids' faces."  Please write your checks to EBR and make the notation "Toys for Tots" on the check. While we are enjoying our own happy holidays, let's take a moment to do something special for the children in our community.

November 21 is the next Bremerton Symphony concert. Save the date!

The Tacoma Concert Band's upcoming events are on November 21, February 20, 2010, and May 1, 2010.

If you have community events to announce, please email them Mindy Byers and she will get the word out on her new radio show, Mega Mouth Mindy.
