PCRR.com - Computers For Schools

Think Green - The numbers are staggering...

  • According to the EPA, over 2 million tons of e-waste ends up in US landfills.
  • And 100's of shipping containers full of e-waste are sent abroad everyday.

The United Nations Environmental Program estimates that, in the U.S. alone, enough computers will be discarded this year that if stacked on a football field, would stand over four miles high.  It is critical for the environment to keep these materials out of landfills. During our website remodeling, Pass On Your PC staff will research recyclers that meet the highest stands of EPA Certification.  We will list them on our web page and only refer our recycling efforts to those who have passed this test of scrutiny.

Do the Right Thing - Reuse is the best option for older computers...

  • It requires over 10 times its weight in fossil fuels to manufacture a new computer.
  • And millions of usable personal computers are being relegated to scrap each year.

The environmental implications are clear, and fortunately, many of these older computers can be reused!  Three out of ten people in the Chicagoland area do not have access to a computer.  By refurbishing computers, and deploying them to individuals in need, we can improve the health of our community, along with the health of our environment.  More often than not, these used computers can be refurbished and provide an opportunity to someone that otherwise would be unable to access this technology.  In the way that your older car, traded in long ago, may help someone get to work, your refurbished computer may help a needy student's success in school or someone find a job.
