The Olean Rotary Club is moving forward with phase II of its water project
in the West African nation of Niger.
The project is organized in cooperation with the Rotary Club of Niamey,
which is Niger's
capital city. Niger
is a land locked, sub-Saharan desert nation of approximately 12 million people
most of which are subsistence farmers.
In 2008 we accomplished phase I by drilling 3 successful wells. The next 5 wells will be drilled in villages within the commun of Libore'. The club will seek matching grant money available from Rotary International and District 7090 to supplement locally raised funding. The cost of a new well is between $2000.00 to $3000.00 depending on the location and depth of the well. If you are interested in donating to this project or seek additional information call or e-mail Carl R. Vahl, 716-373-3264, carlvahlesq@msn.com.
