2010
Tentative date is October 23. You can look at the 2009 applications and flyers to get an idea, then check back in the early Spring for updates.
Over 40 professional cooks and 8 local cooks, restaurants and Rotary Clubs competed, and we expect it to be bigger and better next year. This is a sanctioned regional cook off, with our International Chili Society winners qualifying for the World Championships.
2009 vendor, cook and sponsor information is available through links on the left column!
2009 Information: The public tasted and shopped their way through booths of chili cooks and vendors. Live entertainment, a large bounce house and lots of opportunities for prizes and fun made this a great event for all ages. Additional food vendors were on hand, as well as a beer garden. Cost was only $5 per adult, with kids 10 and under free. Paid admission included a "tasting kit" and attendees voted for the People's Choice chili and Battle of the Restaurants, where Newton's Outpost Cafe (see photo) took home their 3rd title in a row!
The Wannatouchama Chili Cook-Off is the largest annual fundraiser for the Apple Valley Rotary Club. All funds are used to support school children in the community. These include giving a reading book to every Kindergartner in the district, as well as a dictionary to every third-grader. The Club also gives over $10,000 annually to local teachers through a mini-grant program.
NEW THIS YEAR! We are the finish line for the inaugural High Desert Domestic Violence Program "10k/5k --Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" event. For details visit www.HDDVP.org.
