What is the Orlandus Lassus Foundation


The Orlandus Lassus Foundation

takes care of students of the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich (Hochschule für Musik und Theater München), recommended by the president (Rektor) and paid out in 12 installments of 250 Euro per month. In order to qualify for the foundation the student should be a highly estimated talent and in financial need. The scholar will present herself/himself musically at least once a year in the Rotary Club Munich International RCMI.

Orlandus Lassus

(Orlando di Lasso, Orlande de Lassus, Roland Lassus, Roland de Lassus, Roland Delattre) was born 1530 or 1532 in Mons, Belgium, and died 1594 in Munich. He was one of the most profilic and versatile of 16th century composers, and in his time the best-known and most widely admired musician in Europe. In 1563 he took over the leadership of the Münchner Hofkapelle, a position he was to hold for 30 years. In 2005 the Orlandus Lassus Scholarship was founded by the Rotary Club Munich International, in 2006 it became the "Orlandus Lassus Foundation".

Joanna Liberadzka , a Polish harp-player and a student of Professor Helga Storck at the Musikhochschule in Munich, was the first scholar from 2005 to 2007. Joanna was born and raised up in Warsaw, Poland. Meanwhile she speaks fluently German. High talented Joanna has already won several prizes: International Competition of the REINL-Stiftung Vienna, Bundeswettbewerb Jugend Musiziert and Ascona Competition.

 

The German violinist, Manuel Druminski is the second Scholar of Orlandus Lassus Foundation of Rotary Club Munich International (2007-2009). He was born in 1983 in Chile and brought up in Germany. His musical talent was soon discovered and subsequently promoted at an early age. When he was ten years old he was admitted to a promotional program for musically gifted children at the Pestalozzi Grammar School in Munich. Within this program he received violin lessons from Olga Voitowa at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Munich (Hochschule für Musik und Theater München).
