PARTNERS IN LAKEWOOD ROTARY
is a social and charitable organization open to spouses, widows and
significant others of Lakewood Rotarians. We meet monthly in members'
homes; meetings start around 11:45 with lunch, followed by a program
and business meeting. Dues are $30 for the year.
Two scholarships per year are
awarded, one to a Pierce College student and one to a Clover Park Technical
College student. Financial need and academic promise are considered.
Charitable donations are made
each year to programs that directly and indirectly benefit Lakewood
citizens and our military neighbors. We donate to programs involving
the arts, literacy, youth and families, such as:
-
Tacoma
Youth Symphony
-
Tacoma
Area Literacy Council
-
Family
Renewal Shelter
-
Food Connection van to the Springbrook neighborhood
We collect for the FISH food
bank at every Partners meeting.
Volunteers from Partners work
with the READING IS FUNDAMENTAL (RIF) program at Custer Primary School.
Volunteers read to children in grades K-3.
Partners actively support every
Lakewood Rotary fundraiser, particularly the annual SPORTSMAN'S DINNER
AND AUCTION. Most of our charitable donation budget comes from
our work on the SD&A.
Partners are also involved
in other Lakewood Rotary projects, such as Brewfest, held in August
2009.
The Holiday Dinner Dance in
December is a yearly Partners project.
