The event last night at Anthony's was a smashing success. Of the 156 tickets sold, 150 attended last nights event. The weather was no obstacle and thank you for those of you who attended and contributed.
For those of you who were not there last night, our Club presented two Paul Harris Fellows. Budd Gould, the founder of Anthonys was presented with a Paul Harris Fellow. The Anthony's events the last two years have raised a combined $26,000 to be contributed directly back into the community. Barton Waring was also presented a Paul Harris Fellow for his contribution of his hanger location for the Taste of Wine. The 2010 and 2011 Taste of Wine events raised a gross $186,000, with the net of $122,000 primarily contributed back to the community

Rotary supports the Island Hospital Foundation with a custom built tree decorated with 105 bottles of donated wine and other special gifts. Thanks to our members Marilyn Stadler and  Krista Oicles together their spouses, Mark  and Dave for all their hard work involved in designing, building and decorating this wonderful tree. The wine and gifts under the tree were donated by the Noon and Breakfast Rotary Clubs of Anacortes. Proceeds from the sale of the tree were donated to the Island Hospital Foundation.
The Anacortes Rotary Club hosted the annual egg toss in Causland Memorial Park following the 4th of July Parade and Ceremony. The Egg Toss has been effectively managed by Rotarians David Jackson and Yoshi Nishikawa for many years. Jackson and Nishikawa were ably assisted by Rotarian Rich Riddell whom also is the the famous Anacortes Town Crier. The Anacortes Safeway store donated the eggs and the all important handy wipes. Thank you Safeway.
Nishikawa and Jackson are to be commended for the best run and most efficient egg toss within the Greater Puget Sound Area. This is an annual event and volunteers for next year are being recruited.
Mark your calendar for June 11th and join us at Storvick Park for the 7th annual Bark in the Park Festival that is for the dogs!! Our Rotary club will be there from 10-3 hosting the hotdog dunk pool and working to promote the Ace of Hearts Creek Rotary Park located on H Avenue and 38th. November 9, 2011 at 6:00 join us for "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner"! Together with 3 other Rotarians and their guests you'll enjoy a potluck style dinner and drinks. This is a great opportunity to get to know your fellow Rotarians and enjoy some great food and fellowship. Please let Jim Anderson know if you would be interested in being a host, you'll provide the main course, or sign up at the next Rotary meeting to bring a side dish and be part of the fun...get ready to enjoy a memorable evening!

Thank you to all Rotarians that showed up on August 28th to join the Rotary Youth Employment team and Ranger Dave along with his crew to help pull ivy and beautify our Rotary Park! Along with pulling ivy, the cabana and picnic tables were repaired, cleaned and painted and some necessary pruning was completed. Take a relaxing stroll through Rotary Park and check out the great work being done there!
So...what are the details you ask?? August 25th at 5:15 we'll gather at Boyd and Ginny Veer's home at 4306 A Avenue in Anacortes. Cost is just $5 a family...just bring an appetizer, salad, side dish or dessert to share plus your own plates and utensils and beer or wine if you desire and the club will supply the hamburgers, veggie burgers, hotdogs, buns, condiments & pop & water. Island Hospital and Island Hospital Foundation honored three of our own Rotarians with The Spirit of Island Hospital Award. John Chambers, M.D., Harold Clure, M.D. and Harold Eiesland, M.D. were presented with the award at a suprise reception at Island Hospital on July 22, 2010. This award recognizes individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to Island Hospital and its patients.
