The Rotary Club of Burlington Lakeshore held its Aannual Awards Night Dinner on June 9. This marked the 26th year local Academics students were recognized. Each recipient is awarded $2,500 as they continue on in their education while also continuing to excel in various other activities.

Each recipient is awarded $2,500 as they continue on in their education while also continuing to excel in athletics at the next level. This year there were 21 applicants, 15 women and 6 young men.

Information Released for Rotary Scholarships 2009
The Rotary Club of Burlington Lakeshore Scholarship Awards has released information on their program. Details can be obtained by clicking through on the link provided at the left side of this page.
The Rotary Club of Burlington Lakeshore Charitable Foundation was established in Burlington in 1991 to provide ongoing educational awards each year to deserving students who wish to pursue post-secondary education.
Rotary is the largest single donor of educational scholarships in the Burlington area. Last year, a total of $30,000 in scholarship funds were awarded. It is recommended applicants submit their information in a timely manner. All information must be submitted no later than May 15 in order to qualify. More information can be obtained by contacting the Student Services office in Burlington high schools

When Linda Davies first visited Malawi in December of 2005, she noticed how the local children would wind banana leaves together to make soccer balls.
"
They would play until the banana leaves fell apart," said the member of the Burlington Lakeshore Rotary Club.
This April, Davies, along with six other Rotarians, will travel to Malawi to volunteer in one of world's poorest countries. There, the group will help build a community centre, educate the locals on health and distribute more than 1,200 soccer balls to children in the impoverished region
