The new Rotary International President John Kenny's theme for the year is "The future of Rotary is in your hands". One of his main objectives is to remind Rotarians of their personal responsibility to Rotary and its ideals. We will strive to do exactly this in the upcoming Rotary year.

Rotary SUNRISE are helping Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Cayman Islands by donating to ensure all the kids in their program can go to a summer camp of their choice. Spending the summer swimming, fishing, sailing and playing is what many children plan to do over the next couple of months but unfortunately, for some, summer camps can only be in their dreams

The seventh Atlantic Youth Forum, established successfully in 2003, aims to provide an opportunity for young Americans, Canadians and Europeans in the 18-24 age group. Participants will gain insights into each other's concerns and perceptions on key challenges facing their countries and the international community, and make lasting contacts. The programme will cover a range of political, security, cultural, economic and social issues of central interest to the US, Canada and European countries.

Rotary SUNRISE is encouraging the next generation with a program called Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. They recently staged an essay competition inviting Rotaract members to contribute leadership ideas and there were 4 winners. Leigh Smellie, a 27 year old Executive Assistant Marketing and P.R. Officer for the University College of the Cayman Islands, Danielle Japal, a 24 year old civil servant, a research analyst with the Ministry of Education. Susan Levy, a 28 year old Account Manager with Cayman National Fund Services Ltd and 27 year old Troy Brady, currently job researching.

Rotarian Pat Steward recently returned from a volunteer vacation in India where she was pleased to join members of Rotary District 6990 (South Florida/Grand Bahama Island), the World Health Organization, and UNICEF in their bid to eradicate polio. Pat says the trip served to remind her of how very blessed we are here in Cayman and what an honour it was for her to be able to share a little of her good fortune. Her experiences in her own words are described below.
