June 24th will be the club's annual Presidential Demotion which gives the club an opportunity to respectfully acknowledge the accomplishments during the past year. This dignified and solemn event recognizes the hard work of the club president.
Ha! Believe that and we got some land under a bridge to sell you! This is not a kinder, gentler demotion. Children and those of weak constitutions should not attend.
In years past we have had the Spanish Inquisition of Ed Jayne, The Confessions of Larry Smith aka Slumpy the Eighth Dwarf, the Indictment of Mary Queen of Hearts Lundstrom, Pulled the Stuffing out of Steve "Boom Boom" Boster and the Mowing Down of King George "Bud Who Sowed too Many Seeds" Biery.
June 24th, Immediate Past President David Haugen, as his final duty for the 2008-09 year, will be responsible for the Demotion Ceremony of President David Saint Amand. This is the day Mr. Saint Amand joins the ranks of has beens, aka the Past President of the Rotary Club of China Lake.
Our club now has a facebook page. We are just getting started but we can use Facebook to promote our Dollars for Scholars Auction, the Community Dinner and other exciting events and projects.

May 4, 2009 Thank you for the support of this great project. We have just sent out 15 more medical supply backpacks. That brings our total to 50 backpacks. Wow! Thank you for everyone's participation in this project. We will be continuing to support the medical backpack project. So, continue to collect, buy or find
those useable backpacks.
We can take used backpacks. The backpack needs to have good straps, a zipper that closes and no holes. Maybe you have a gently used backpack tucked in a closet that we could repurpose.

Sharing fellowship to ease the pain of writing that check to pay taxes. This is a great opportunity to introduce friends and co-workers to the Rotary Club of China Lake.
Twenty years ago, Rotary International (RI) changed the rules to allow women to join Rotary clubs. The change was the result of a court case begun in the 1970s, but what most people don't know is that the struggle to get women into Rotary goes almost all the way back to the beginning of Rotary itself.

Our club collected $1,554.92 in donations for this worthy charity. On top of that, we maintained our winning streak in the annual challenge with our friends from the Ridgecrest Kiwanis Club! Pictured here are two of Santa's orneriest elves pointing out the irony of the bell ringing season (a big thanks to Jinny DeAngelis for the photo).

The members will dicuss the goals and achievement of the current year and brainstorm for ideas for next year. Spouses are encouraged to come and provide their ideas and suggestions. Light refreshments are served. This is considered a regular meeting for the club...so, if you miss you will need a make-up to remain at 100% attendance. The long tradition of the chinese fire drill white elephant but not really a white elephant gift exchange will be played. To join the fun just bring a wrapped gift valued at $25 or so and place it under the tree. Players will get a number and then their chance to pick a gift. You can keep your unwrapped gift, or select the opened gift of someone else, but remember gifts can be swiped two times before they are no longer in play. Your guests can join the fun, just bring a wrapped gift for them.
While liquor or wine are typical gifts in our merry little group, Gifts can be fun and creative. Gifts should be valued at about $25.
You can register you and your guests by visiting the club calendar and clicking on the event.

Rotary International President-elect Dong Kurn Lee addressed incoming district governors today at the 2008 International Assembly, urging them to use their resources to help curb child mortality. Lee said he was in disbelief when he learned that 30,000 children under the age of five die every day from preventable diseases such as pneumonia, measles, and malaria.
Some magnificent projects grow from very small seeds. The Rotary Foundation had that sort of modest beginning. In 1917 R.I. President Arch Klumph told the delegates to the Atlanta Convention that "it seems eminently proper that we should accept endowments for the purpose of doing good in the world." The response was polite and favorable, but the fund was slow to materialize.
It is that time of year again! The annual Kiwanis v Rotary Bell Ringing Challenge is scheduled for December 15th. Rotarians will be ringing bells at K-Mart. Kiwanians will be ringing bells at Wal-Mart.
