We welcome new member Chris Arges who is a PH.D student at I.I.T. aspiring to be a R&D Scientist/Engineer with a chemical company. Even with his demanding schedule, he finds time to run, swim, bike, and play rugby and basketball, travel and make his own beer. If you've read Surely You're Joking Mr. Feynman, Devil in the White City, Innovating for Health or The Story of Baxter International, you and Chris will have much to discuss because these are his favorites.

On Wednesday, October 21, 2009 PDG Rick Thiernau (left) had chance to chat with our president as well as club members before giving a very moving story about why being a Rotarian is important to him. His father was a Rotarian, so Rick has a long history of involvement and leadership. He is looking at other service perhaps in Ghana and the Phillipines in the near future.

June 3, 2009 was a beautiful day because we dedicated the St. Elizabeth playground which represents the first Rotarian physical service project on the South side of Chicago. We thank all Rotarians and families who weeded, raked, hoed, painted, and installed equipment and benches. Pictured are past DG Art Davis (on the right) who secured the equipment and Brian Andersen, District Literacy Management Chair who was instrumental in getting funding. ADG David Baker and Stan Tarr, member RCCNS worked tirelessly along with members of thirteen Rotary Clubs and our Rotaracters. See photo album for more pictures.

It was with great pleasure that our club received the Most Diverse Club in District 6450 Award at its District Conference held 5/1-3, 2009. We were so honored because this newly created award is designated for a club based on its diversity of age, gender, and ethnicity. Kudos!
