Salute Rotarians!
So I didn't get to go shopping in Paris, the host family left without me. But I did get to watch the theatre of Angouleme! It was a little dry, I couldn't understand it because I am not yet at the level of French Shakespeare like language yet, but I did understand the plot :D the name of the play was Brittanicus. It portrayed the life of Royal people in the early 1800's I think... well that's what the costumes looked like anyways. So the king had three wives, the first wife had a baby boy early and the third most recent wife is the mother if Brittanicus. When the king died the roll of the next king didn't go to the nice older brother, it went to Brittanicus, but brittanicus was very factious and rude. Brittanicus had a lover named Judith and she was kidnapped by the elder brother in his attempt to bring the downfall of Brittanicus, the elder brother then fell in love with Judith but she despised him. Brittanicus had a councillor person named Narcisse (he was my favourite because he was actually fun) and Narcisse was lying to Brittanicus for the elder brother. There was some fighting and some loving and a few deaths then they took a bow and it was time to go to the neighbours for our traditional Friday night :)

Please join me in congratulating Kevin Hilgers (and Jan!) who was selected as District Governor of Rotary International District 5370 for year 2012-2013. This is a great honour for Kevin, our Club, and for Grande Prairie. For the first time since 1958, Grande Prairie will have a District Governor. In 1958 it was Art Balfour, charter president of the Rotary Club of Grande Prairie, and DG for the then District 5360 (which was later split into 2 districts, 5360 and 5370)   More...

bonjour mes amis!

I apologize for my long-delayed update. Although I have been fairly busy, I have not been doing anything of significance. I will begin this overdue letter from where I left off last. Upon my return home from the weekend in Royan, I decided to look into traveling alone in the month of February. (Long time away, but I hear there is a lot of paperwork.) My intended destinations are 1 Delbruck Germany for educational benefit and 2 Switzerland! Indeed to visit my favorite foreigner Noemi Klarer!  I did not get very far into making solid plans because I was rushed off to yet another family. I spent three days there; fortunately they have a girl my age that is fluent in FOUR languages! The following Tuesdays François took me home. It was relaxing, just me and him bonding. By bonding I mean struggling in the kitchen to prepare dinner, then sitting in front of the TV. Hallejulia there were subtitles :D.

Over the three weeks of late summer (August 20 -September 6,2009) I was given the unique opportunity to participate in a Rotary International Fellowship Exchange to District 1010, a beautiful Rotary District in Northeastern Scotland. I have been rather busy these last few weeks around the town and with rotary. On September the 18th-20th was the orientation weekend in Royan. My region (Charente) hosts approximately 40 exchange students. Each of which are very unique. During the weekend we acquainted ourselves with each other through many events. The first night was a dinner followed by a three hour presentation on rotary rules, what to expect emotionally and physically, tips and secrets on how to be an outstanding exchange student.   More...

The annual Interclub Ball Game was held under sunny skies on September 20. The day started off with 18 future Rotarians (kids and Grandkids) playing a spirited game assisted by adults pitching and catching. The adults round robin tournament featured golden glove catches by Lorraine Ehlert and exchange student Osmar Rojas. (Oh Yah, and there was that one out of the park home run by Vernon Boyd of the Sunrise club).Dan Balisky and President Derek provided the GP club with excellent pitching. The tournament was won by the Swan club. The GP club, with 14 team members was runner up. Everone enjoyed the delicious supper provided by the GP club BBQ team. I LOVE MY ROTARY CLUB!!! I attended my first rotary meeting this past week! Just thought I should fill you in. There are 25 members, all very pleasant, still not the Kevin Hilgers or Derek hall, but good. They all say hello :) At rotary we do not eat, it is in a tiny room but we do enjoy a glass of wine (adults) or juice with a wide selection of cheese. They have never heard of happy dollar, but as the end of the meeting nears a joke is always told (it is never funny but we still laugh)   More...

The annual interclub ball game will be held Sunday Sept 20 at South Bear Creek Ball Diamonds. Please note the change of date as we originally had scheduled for Sept 13. Last year, the event was cancelled due to inclement weather (rained like crazy), so we have had an extra year to rest up. There will be a kids game (scrub) starting at 12pm. Adults will start at 1 pm. Each club will play each other to determine the champions. BBQ to follow at approximately 5 pm. Fall Fun and Fellowship!

Thanks to a committed group of Rotarians, and a awesome team of tradespeople, the main building that welcomes campers to the Rotary Campsite received a major overhaul.

A BBQ was held Friday June 12 at the campground as a way to say Thank You! to the trades people and to invite Rotarians out to see the results.  The building received new exterior and interior paint, new flooring and tiles in the washroom/showers, and a upgraded coin-operated laundry facility.

Our Outbound Exchange Student Spencer Merlo is in Brazil, and writes:  "This cheque worth $brl 8 345 (Brazilian Reais) was presented to the Rotary Club Of Unaí on the seventh of May, 2009. The club of Unaí would like to express their gratitude to the Rotary Club of Grande Prairie and they look forward to the doors this money will open to the city of Unaí"  . The money was a district simplified grant; (half from our club, the other half from District 5370) of 5000 Canadian dollars. It's going to help the local wheelchair bank that leases wheelchairs at no cost to people that need them but don't have the financial conditions to pay.  Spencer initiated the project and made it a reality!

Great job with the blood donor clinic last week!  We collected 626 units of life-saving blood, since each unit saves up to 3 lives, 1878 people in need of blood will be impacted by your collections.  I hope that you continue to find this a worthwhile and engaging opportunity for the members of the Rotary Club of Grande Prairie. Please pass along our sincere thanks to all the volunteers who participated in the clinic. We will be in touch in about 8-10 months to begin the process all over again and to see if you are once again interested in supporting this important community event. Thank you once again for your generous contribution of time and talents! Sincerely, Cassandra DeLucaCommunity Development CoordinatorCanadian Blood ServicesAlberta.   cassandra.deluca@blood.ca

Here's a great example of how the money we send to the Rotary Foundation comes back to help us at the Club Level.  Attached is part of a letter from Spencer Merlo regarding the upcoming presentation of funds to the Rotary Club in Unai Brazil that will be used to fix and replace the wheelchairs in their Wheelchair Bank.  The money that he will present is a combination of funds from our club and a matching Grant from District.  On a 3 year revolving basis, half of the funds sent by individual clubs in a district to the Foundation are returned to their District for Projects.  This is where the matching grant money comes from. So to all of you that contribute to the foundation... a BIG THANKS for helping make Spencer's Dream Real.

Since we have switched from the calendar year to the Rotary year for contributions we find we are slightly behind in our total for this year.  This is mainly due to the normal annual contributors being a little later than usual.  We encourage members in this category to please look after this if you intend to contribute this year.

Quarterly contributions seem to be on schedule and we really appreciate the members that are on this plan.  Certainly  much easier for the committee to deal with.  Any member that wishes to go on the quarterly plan or change to it should contact a committee member prior to the end of July.  Present contributors are automatically carried forward without advice.

Paul Harris District Society members that committed to the Society last year can make their contribution directly through the club if they wish by making their cheque to the Rotary Foundation of Canada in the normal manner.  If you also happen to be a quarterly contributor please adjust the amount accordingly if you wish.  The exchange rate at present is $1.22.

Questions please give me a shout.

Editors note - members Doug Sloan,  Margo Roy, Denise Ouellette, Hugh Impey, Marilyn Cramer, Jim Munro, are in Bolivia on a Rotary project. Doug reports..

Hope this finds everyone well! I cant believe our visit for the week is over,it has gone very fast. I believe the visit has been  a great success. We have delivered all of the books for the teachers and students, backpacks, teaching aids, tables and chairs to the 13 schools. We split into 3 groups in order to complete this task. You might think-13 schools,no big deal. However,Thursday for example ,we left the Hotel at 5:15 A.M. and returned at approx. 10 P.M.That was the day for our team-we went to two schools that day. This was very similar for the other two teams as well.I have a different appreciation Jeff for Toyotas now ,as the Landrover(1991) we rode in had 475,000 kms on it and it just plugged on through streams, sand dune type of terrain, extremely rough terrain, dust etc.etc..Lots of pictures to bore you all with, that will give you a much better perspective on what type of condition these folks live in.Its hard to explain how basic, basic their existence is compared to what we have come to expect at home.the pictures will help.Water and sanitation are huge issues in the remote areas of Bolivia. This is the area that these people have asked for help from us in the future. The agency,Save The Children,is a major force in this area .Strong relations between Rotary and the communities here have been built because of their influence.

Hi Rotary Club!

How is everything going on? I'm doing an update. Everything here is going really good - our winter of 10 degrees is over and is starting to warm up. The school is good too even if is making me busy and I'm taking French and dance too.

Right now the year in Canada is helping a lot, I just change the way I meet new people and my mind is open all the time to new experiences, and for sure I learned to talk in public. Last week I did a speech and I was nervous but then I remember - come Mariana you did this every Friday for one year - and without thinking I was done and it was really good.

The English is helping me a lot too right now. I'm working at the port and with the money that I'm saving I will visit other exchange students this summer, and I'm very happy for that. And for sure I will come back to visit you. That's my plan for next year, and in wintertime I really miss the snow.

My plans for the future are almost the same. I have one year left of high school and then I'm planning to study architecture. This Easter Jean-Marc is coming with his family and I'm really looking forward to that. I can't wait.

And that's how everything is going on. I miss the club a lot, and I wish you the best and remember to come down here and visit me. Mi casa es su casa! (my house is your house).

With love,
Mariana

The employment placement steering committee is designed to place people into full, part or summer placement in a field that will provide them with meaningful and fulfilling work. We are seeking employers through rotary and our connections to find these individuals work. Marilyn Cramer, Jeff Johnston, Doug Montgomery, and Brooke Coulter are on the committee and can help with any assistance that you may need. There are also mentors for the employers to ensure that the placement and work environment is a "good fit" for all concerned. We have added the resumes of the people that are currently seeking work, please take a moment to see if you can help find these people the jobs that they are looking for.  These may be downloaded by clicking on the "Rotary Employment Partnership" Link in the Downloads section of the home page.

Hey everybody! How are things in GP? I am currently undergoing my military training to become Section Leader in the swiss army. I figured that after I'm done with the whole thing, I'll need some time off and I've diceded that Canada definitely is the best place for me to be when i need rest :). I will be coming back to Canada on the 23rd of November till the 3rd of January. Now the only thing I need is a place to stay. If you have a spare room or bed, I'd be happy if you could take me up for one week or so. (I'll shovel snow and whatnot for my stay ;)). Anyway. I gotta run since I gotta be back at the camp in a couple hours. Please contact me if you are able to accomodate me. Many Rotarians are making an invaluable difference by helping people with developmental disabilities "get their foot in the door" of business and industry to have a chance for real jobs. In turn many Rotarians are learning about the contribution people with developmental disabilities can make from improving the bottom line (e.g. by reducing turnover) to increasing customer satisfaction.

(Editor Note, Pic is Spencer in Rio De Janeiro,  Spencer is our OUTbound exchange student.)  I have just returned from a month long rotary sponsored trip to the northeast of Brasil and found this a perfect time to catch up. Basically this trip started in Rio De Janeiro and we (more than 40 exchange students) went up the Brasilian coast until the city of Fortaleza for 27 days. It was a great chance to see more of Brasil and now I can proudly say that I have been to 17 of 27 Brasilian states. Just in case any of you were wondering put the jellyfish on your list of animals that you never want to get stung by. I will personally tell you that after four hours of pain you learn fast that those little guys pack a punch. As well as my jellyfish encounter I had a chance to surf, ride the highest waterslide in the world, learned a little more about samba, danced capoeira, and did a tour in Roçinha, Rio´s most famous favela. Now I am safely back in Unaí with a months worth of dirty clothes and it lookes like I will get to know the faithful washboard a little better in the next few days.   More...

Past President Kevin Hilgers will be stepping into the role of Assistant Governor effective July 1, 2009.  Incoming District Governor Terry Drader made it official.  The role of the AG is to represent the District when needed, to advise when and where needed, and - like the District itself - assist clubs to attain their goals.  The local AG covers the Grande Prairie clubs, (Including Rotaract, Interact) and Grande Cache. Generally the role is a 3 year term.   There are 13 AG's in District 5370, which stretches from Yellowknife to Wetaskiwin,  North Battleford to Ft Nelson, and points in between.  There are about 60 clubs in the district - with 2500 members.

Hey Everyone! I just wanted to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and all the best in the new year 2009! I am currently serving as a Private in the Swiss Armed Forces. My service will be done on November 20th next year. By then I'll be a Leutenant of the Swiss Armed Forces and I'll have done my share of work for my country (hopefully). I am already planning on coming back to Canada right after that. Anyway: Sorry for the short note, but I still have to get Christmas presents for my brother and my grand parents. :) I hope all of you are well! Love from Switzerland Silvan

Merry Christmas everyone!  We were delighted for the chance to get together again this holiday season to share some fellowship and have some fun.  We were honored to have some special guests with us, namely Eileen Sweetnam, Irene Ness, Martha Head, Grace Taylor and daughter, Donna Schultz and Pat Schneider.

A whopping $8500 was raised for Sunrise house, thanks to both the generous silent auction donations and excellent bidding on those items.

Some 240 people attended, with many staying late to dance the night away.

Please click the link for the main story to find the charming Twelve Days of Rotary that our Presidents graced us with!

Look forward to seeing you all next year!

As it has been quite a while since we have talked I figured it would be a perfect time to send in my monthly (on brasilian time) update. Everything has been going great in Unaí, unfortunately fishing season came to a close about a month ago, and school has ended as well until february so I have been finding myself with a surplus of time. To fill the gap I´ve basically been doing a whole mess of things, If the weather warrants sitting around in a 1987 ford without airconditioning for the day I head out to the farm, nothing gets the blood flowing like going to the gym when the mercury rises above thirty degrees and I´ve been studying spanish at a language school and helping out teaching english from time to time as well. I am looking forward to the prospect of a rotary trip in january where myself and a bunch of other exchange students will bus up the Brasilian coast, from Rio until fortaleza with stops at all of the cool places in between.   More...

POTPOURRI - Grande Prairie's car czar - Les Longmate is the patriarch of city auto dealers

BY Bill Scott  Nov 21 2008

It made sense if anyone had really thought about it, except no one did, or at least not many. And it wasn't exactly the case anyway.

But not anymore.

Now it's official: Les Longmate of Windsor Ford is the lone patriarch of Grande Prairie auto dealers, going back 50 years to what you could call the Downtown 7 - Ford-Monarch, Chev-Olds, Pontiac-Buick, Dodge-Chrysler, Plymouth, Mercury-Meteor, and Volkswagen.

Hi rotary club,

Sorry that I didn't send a email or nothing earlier. But don't think that I forget about all of you that will never happen.  I want to say thank you to the club for all the experiences that I lived in Grande Prairie , this last year was the best year of my life. I miss all of you, the meetings, and my rotary club and for sure the weather here is too hot, but is getting better.

Everything back home is really good; I had a really good welcome, for my friends are family.

I think one of my favourite things about the Hog n' Grog is the wide cross section of our club's Rotary family who attend. In one corner, there're 5-year-olds doing crafts, and across the way some of our longest term members are visiting (and solving Rotary's greatest problems...) in the company of some of our newer members.

Of course, the excellent cooking by the hog crew (and a darn fine grog recipe) made for a great night last Saturday.

Thank you Team Hog, for another great event!

Carol's GROG RECIPE (red sangria)
3/4 C Simple syrup (equal parts sugar to water)
2 bottles of red wine (does not need to be expensive to taste good)
3/4 C Brandy
1/2 C Triple Sec
3/4 C orange juice
2 oranges sliced into thin rounds
2 green apples /cored and sliced thin
2 lemons sliced into thin rounds
Boil water and pour over sugar to dissolve. Cool. Combine all ingredients in a large pitcher and refrigerate covered for 2 hrs or up to 2 days. Serve over ice.

(Editors Note: As published in Daily Herald) Much of the global economy's downward spiral this fall can be attributed to a negative emotional response in the face of uncertain times. Many people, afraid of losing their homes and savings, are selling whatever assets they may have, planning to hoard the cash to tide them over until the crisis subsides.  As a result, stock markets such as Toronto's S&P/TSX index and Wall Street's Dow Jones Index plunged further on Friday, deepening fears of a global recession.  But in a 20-minute address Friday to the Grande Prairie Rotary Club, Alberta Treasury Branch senior economist Todd Hirsch told those in attendance the best course of action right now is to stay calm.

"The number one advice is don't panic," Hirsch told reporters after his presentation. "I mean, that's always the first rule whenever there's any kind of crisis at all. Don't panic; try to be as levelheaded about it as you can. Don't go out and liquidate all your assets, don't sell your home or put all your money under a mattress. That's entirely the wrong thing right now."

What people should be doing, Hirsch added, is getting their financial house in order.

Spencer is our outbound exchange student in Brazil

As it has now been two months and some days into my rotary adventure I though it would be the perfect time to write my second monthly (on brasilian time) report. As I´m sure that its almost certainly snowing or cold and windy in town I would tell you that is couldn´t be any more of the opposite where I am. First of all it has rained twice since I have arrived, and these have been more like drizzles than full on downpours, and the mid thirty(38 today) degree heat makes this place like a pressure cooker. Now after two months the language is substantially better, and this place is starting to feel more like a home than another planet. I was sitting on a bus the other day coming home from the big city and after talking to the guy sitting next me for ten or fifteen minutes when I told him that I was canadian he didn´t believe me. Things that I couldn´t believe when I showed up have become normal and the various oddities of Brazilian culture I am starting to comprehend. As far as what I have been doing, it has been more of the usual, running into animals that I would never see in Canada, like monkeys and ostriches, I have perfected the use of the washboard now, and I´m fishing like crazy still. Now that I´ve been with the club longer I have got to know a lot more about them and about what they do. The first thing you should know is that something exists here called the Casa Da Amizade (house of friendship), it is basically a group parallel to rotary that consists of only women (the wives of rotarians) and meets separately to help with rotary projects. I have learned that my club doesn´t have any international projects and when I asked one of the past presidents why I was told that it´s too much work, so maybe theres something I can do to change that philosophy, maybe a joint project with The Grande Prairie Rotary   More...

Editors note: Robin Hood is a former member of our club, now in Lethbridge.  This story is from Scotland.

Canadian visitors at Rotary meeting

AT the Rotary Club of Strathaven's meeting on Tuesday, September 9, President Maher Hadidi presided over a large turn-out of members, guests and visitors in the Strathaven Hotel.

Amongst the guests were Harry Marsh of the Bothwell and Uddingston Club who is the Group Study Exchange coordinator for District 1230, and Dr Robert Podboy of the Lions Club of Waynesburgh, USA, who was the guest of Past President John Miller.

The principal guests for the evening were the group of four young people from Alberta, Canada, who were on the first few days of their month-long exchange visit to Scotland.

Their team leader, Robin Hood, past president of two different Canadian Rotary Clubs and a retired banker, introduced the team who then gave an illustrated presentation.

Each of them spoke more than competently about themselves and their widely disparate vocational interests.

The vote of thanks was delivered by immediate Past President Nigel Thomson who, together with his team, has made the arrangements to host the Canadians and provide them with a very active four-day programme of cultural and vocation-related activities tailored to suit the needs and interests of each visitor.

Our new Bingo season starts on Oct 23rd. New captains and new teams have been formed and we look forward to another successful year. I would like to thank Randy Beairsto, Justin Munroe and Derek Hall for volunteering to be Bingo Captains. In the past Bingo was unpopular with some because of smoking and others because it was considered gambling. The good news is there is no more smoking at the bingo hall so that excuse is gone. Bingo is our second largest fund raiser behind the Dream Home Lottery and when I calculate the number of hours involved in each activity the return on Bingo is actually greater on a per hour basis than the dream home. Rotarians on each team will only be required to work 2 times per year now that is not a huge commitment. Team members please remember to show up ON TIME for your selected date and if you can't for any reason make it please get another Rotarian to replace you. That will save your captain a lot of time. Thanks for your all your outstanding support for the Bingo event.

(Editor note, click on foto to enlarge his fish!) Hello Rotary,  All is well in Unaí (oo-ny-E)Brasil, I am noticing my english become worse as my portuguese gets better, I studied like crazy before I left and now after a month I can communicate fine as long as the conversation doesn´t move at breakneck speed. I ve had many interesting experiences, before I left I was asked by the district how I felt about having servants, and more realistically now I am finding myself washing certain articles of clothing with a bar of soap and a washboard once or twice a week. Living a slightly simpler lifestyle suits me well though,I have somehow caught more fish with a bamboo pole than a modern setup, I walk everywhere I have to go (which makes sence because food is cheaper than gas), often get to hang out and do odd jobs at the farm, and have had many encounters with the creatures of the country, in fact last week one decided to take up residence in my hand, but after some tweezing and a considerable amount of blood he had no choice but to find a place to live elsewhere. I just got home from a three day fishing extravaganza with about twenty rotarians from my club which was an absolute blast.Nobody caught an insane amount of fish but it was a great chance to get to know the guys and enjoy a chilly winter weekend (with temperatures averaging well above thirty degrees) I was expecting my friends at school to teach me all of the swear words in portuguese but the rotatians beat them to the punch.Rotary is very different in brasil, in Unaí ( a city of about eighty thousand) there are three rotary clubs with about fifty people each. My club has fourty seven people, one woman and meets at eight thirty at night every thursday.Like most gatherings in Brasil the serious business of rotary is dealt with quickly and then music turns on and it is more of an excuse to sociaize.   More...

It was with a mix of excitement and sadness that our family took time off to drive our inbound exchange student to the Lower Mainland to be reunited with her family. Prior to meeting with her parents we enjoyed the opportunity to do some sightseeing with Mariana, namely Mt Robson (could not see the top that day) and the Okanagan (no signs of Ogopogo either). Mariana may have grown accustomed to our Canadian winters however she did not dare go for a swim in the lake. Her parents Monica and Marte, brother Jorge, sister Andrea, aunt and uncle and three cousins finally made it to the Mission Hill Estate Winery on July 22nd and the reunion was quite touching to witness. The Manjarrez and Lacasse families toured the lower Mainland for a few days prior to the Manjarrez's return to Seattle on the 26th.

I recently got back from a very successful Outbound Orientation Conference for District 5370. As a "Rebound Exchange Student" it was my task to help prepare the new outbound exchange student for his trip to Austria. It was a very nostalgic weekend as everyone was started their stories with "this one time in...". After a lot of laughs and a lot more tears the weekend was over, with my new friend and protogee Everett hopefully as prepared as I could get him for his trip to austria. At the end of the weekend we rebounds had all successfully graduated from the exchange program as Rotex members (Ex, Exchange Members) with a lot left ahead of us. During the sessions on the weekend the rebounds were asked to write a reflection about their exchange which were shared between us. I would like to share mine with you as a tribute and a thank you for my sponsor club for giving me this great experience.   More...

On thursday (13th)the rotary clubs made three vehicle presentations, including our school bus. The Edson club presented their fire truck to the second fire department station, the Swan City club presented their small bus to a school for the handicappped and our bus was given to a food bank that provides meals to 9750 of Mazatlan's and areas extremely poor. As is the case with all the donations a formal ceremony was held at all the locations with lots of press and food, food, food. Ray and I handed over the keys to our bus on behalf of the club to very grateful Food Bank representatives who also arranged for their local priest to be on hand to officially bless the bus, as part of the ceremony. From a personal perspective this was the most rewarding day of the trip for both Ray and I and we were extremely proud to be our club's represetatives for this project. Friday saw another Swan City bus donated to a technical school to enable students to be bused to various businesses to get hands on experience in their respective trades. There are strong intiatives aimed at the tourism sector and a number of the techincal programs offered in this school are targeting the hospitality industry. Friday wrapped up with a formal dinner hosted by the Mayor of Mazatlan - more food. Saturday morning was our final breakfast meeting with the Rotarian and Rotaract members of the Mazatlan clubs where again many thank you's were received from their clubs along with more certificates of appreciation and with the press again in full force. In mid afternoon a delegation including Pepe San took us to the airport to see us off and add their final thanks. This was a truly amazing trip with mechanical challenges that were overcome and many new friendships formed not only with the rotarians in Mazatlan but also with rotary members of all four rotary clubs that made up the caravan to Mexico. I would highly recommend and encourage our club members to consider taking part in this project.

I am writing from Kona Hawaii, and hope to do a make up this week. Hence, my thoughts. A fellow Rotarian in Grande Prairie attended a make-up meeting in Winnipeg and was surprised that not only did the club not announce him as a guest - they didn't even ask his name at sign in! It made me think how easy it is for all of us to slip into the habit of not making welcoming guests a priority in our clubs. How is your club doing?

Good question.  Is it the membership chair?  The executive?  Is it seasoned long term Rotarians?  Before I answer - a fact.  In North America Rotary is on the decline.  In fact our current President Wilf Wilkinson said in Vancouver "Without new members, nothing else matters.  Without our youth and new members, it will only take a few decades for Rotary to disappear" .  Pretty dramatic words isn't it?  Here's what I like to mention to clubs when we discuss membership growth.

*** Cheryl did a bang up job on a brochure for prospective new members.  It's printed and will be in the cupboard at Rotary - and explains in 2 pages about our club,  Rotary, and it's obligations and priveledges.   A great introduction for prospective members.  You can also DOWNLOAD it Watch for the link called   Prospective Member E-Club Brochure under DOWNLOADS o our web site at www.gprotary.com
