This week's Rotary Foundation Thought is about how a Matching Grant can make a difference.  This story is very similar to what our club did in Los Chillos, Ecuador.

Last year Rotary clubs in Brazil and Mexico and the United states joined together in a matching grant to aid the Lar das Criancas Children's Home in Tanabi, Brazil. This institution provides free extracurricular activities and much needed daycare for low income families. A matching grant was used to help the Home purchase uniforms for all of the children. Each student also received school supplies, gym shoes, swimsuits and caps. Tanabi Rotarians have seen the student's interest in learning and participating in activities improve as well as the children's sense of self worth after the uniforms and equipment arrived. This is just one of the many examples of how the Foundation's humanitarian grants programs can make positive changes for children.

Thanks to everyone who made a donation toward the cost of a second Rotary Shelter Box for earthquake survivors in Haiti. Our club has now paid for two, each of which will provide a tent and other essentials for a family of ten. The board has pledged to match individual donations and it is not too late to donate. You have until the end of the month. Contact treasurer Ron Wrobel to make a donation.   More...

Even the snow couldn't keep John Willett's friends and hecklers away. We had a pretty good turnout this week (I counted 28) and several guests, including Marc Perry, Brian Reilly, Lynda Millar, Marcia Cough, and Doreen Frangos! But we still missed our minimum of 35 and I was too slow on the trigger asking folks who wanted to buy To Go Boxes. We sell boxes of Chris Pasha's delicious leftovers for $6 to help meet our minimum and not waste food.   More...
