(Redondo Beach, CA) - February 1, 2010 - WOW February 2010 already?!
The good news about time passage is that our lives change and with proper care and attention improve. And in that light it is with great pleasure that I get to announce that Pearl Davis and Nelson Zager will be joining us on Wednesday after lengthy abscences - WELCOME BACK PEARL AND NELSON!
Also last week we heard that Chat Campbel is back at home! Way to go Chat! Can't wait to see you at the Wednesday meetings!
February brings us to the Super Bowl 10K and 5K Run/Walks in Redondo Beach. THis coming Sunday, February 7, 2010, WE the Rotary Club of Redodno Beach are staging a 5K Walk-a-Thon to raise funds for the END POLIO NOW - Bill and Melinda Gates Matching Grant. Our goal is to raise $500.00 per Rotarian for the walk. That is only $100.00 per kilometer or better yet 10 donors donating $50.00 each. IT IS TIME TO GET OUT AND GET DONORS! In truth how many times a year do you actual ask your friends and neighbors to support your Rotarian efforts? If you are like most people maybe once. And how often are you the first person everyone thinks to ask for your support of their efforts? If you are like most Rotarians ALL the time! So this is your chance to just ask your friends and Neighbors to support a Rotary Project.
Over 20 years ago Rotary started the project to Eradicate Polio from the face of the earth. Through all kinds of adversity Rotary is still working towards the worthy goal. THis is the final push to eradicate polio in the last 4 areas of the world where it still is an academic. Bill Gates gave $155 million and pledged another $200 Million if Rotary would match the $200 million. This is our part of that $200 million match.
PICK UP YOUR PLEDGE FORM WEDNESDAY - GET YOUR PLEDGES AND WALK WITH US ON SUNDAY.

TAVEUNI, FIJI -- During the months of October and November, members of the Taveuni Rotary Club contributed labor to install seven water catechment towers at school sites on the island. They did so with the assistance of $5600 donated by the Redondo Beach Rotary Club, explained Rotarian Karen Weigel who coordinated raising funding for the project. She said the catchment towers were needed to improve sanitation at the schools following 60 cases of typhoid among school children last year. Half the funds were raised by auctioning a week's vacation in Fiji at our club's Casino Night last spring. Air Pacific Airlines contributed the value of the flight and Paradise Resort contributed seven nights lodging. Our club donated the remaining half -- $2800 -- towards the project.
