Posted by Vern Noble on Apr 16 2009

On April 9, the Rotary Club of Okotoks participated in the Okotoks "Canada Becomes A Nation" celebration held in Okotoks.  The club members gathered with other service organizations, the RCMP, fire Department, scouts, air and sea cadets, veterans, town councilors and citizens to honor the Canadian soldier at Vimy Ridge.  There was a short march to the Cenotaph where a ceremony of remembrance was held, and then a return to the Elks Hall for refreshments.  A historical display of the Battle of Vimy Ridge was set out for viewing; and town councilor and Rotarian, Stephan Clark,  presented the story of Vimy Ridge.  Included in his speech were readings from letters written by soldiers from Okotoks who wrote home about the battle.  All in all, a special day of remembrance and honor to our veterans.

The Rotary Club of Okotoks welcomed to membership. Lynn Rooyakkers  at their April 1 meeting.  Lynn is excited to be involved with Rotary and is looking forward to working with the club to achieve their many objectives.  The induction was followed by a demonstration of Clubrunner by Vern Noble.  The club is utilizing this tool as a means to effectively communicate with the members, and Vern helped the club members navigate around the site.  All Committee Chairs were urged to populate the various headings with information to help their colleagues stay informed!

Leaders of Tomorrow 2009
Posted by Vern Noble on Mar 2 2009

The Town of Okotoks, the Western Wheel and the Rotary Club of Okotoks have again partnered to select our Leaders of Tomorrow.  Young people from the Town are nominated by various groups - ie churches, schools, library, etc.  These students apply for the award and a selection committee carefully reviews the accomplishments of these applicants - looking for those future leaders in our community.  It is sometimes very difficult to select the top applicants as we discover that there are many outstanding youth in Okotoks which, by their acts, display leadership qualities.  We look forward to awarding these in April, and have continued our sponsorship of this worthwhile project.

$50,000 to Seaman Stadium Field House
Posted by Vern Noble on Mar 2 2009

The Rotary Club of Okotoks was pleased to present the Seaman Stadium Field House Building Fund with a cheque for $50,000.  The Okotoks Dawgs made the transition to Okotoks and in the last two years have taken the Championship Title - last year in front of the home crowd!   The youth of Okotoks have responded and there are now many minor teams playing and learning baseball.  The enclosure of the field house will allow for year round training in batting and the basics of baseball.  Another rewarding donation to the community.
