Ambassadorial Scholar Connects Us to Chile
I wanted to share just a brief thought with you before Richard Williams and I leave for Chile tomorrow. This special organization which we are part of, Rotary International, has two scholarship programs they offer.  One is Ambassadorial Scholar and the other is World Peace Scholar (Rotary Centers for International Studies).  Those of you who give a minimum of $25 on a quarterly basis to The Rotary Foundation through our sustaining program are directly participating in these two fantastic scholarships.

Go to Ambassadorial Scholar to read about the program.

Three years ago, our club put forth a candidate, Kelly Tiller, for the Ambassadorial Scholar program.  This was the first time our Club had ever attempted to participate in this program.  Kelly was interviewed and did not make the final cut.  One year later, with support and mentoring from our club, she was selected.

The Ambassadorial Scholar receives up to $25,000 from our District to study abroad for a post graduate degree.  Along with their study, they are required to work side-by-side with local Rotarians to support and encourage humanitarian projects.  Kelly has done an outstanding job of this, and our purpose for traveling to Chile is to formalize the relationships with the Rotarians with whom she has established a connection and to ensure that the work she began will continue after she completes her studies.

You are part of an amazing Rotary Club.  As usual, whatever we do, we do with pride and unwavering commitment.  Our support has enabled Kelly to fulfill her objective which was to provide assistance to the street children.  Her foster care home is up and running thanks to our Club and the help of local Rotarians in Valpariso.  We will be looking at many potential projects including the idea of setting up a medical clinic in the higher elevations where medical treatment is virtually non existant.  Also, we will see how we can support a vocational program for indigent women.  Of course, we will also be giving those foster kids a hug and maybe a Hershey bar!  All of this is possible because of you.

You can follow our travels on Kelly's Blog.  We will try to post photos, etc. throughout the week.  We'll only be gone a week, but because of all of you, our efforts may last a lifetime.

Have a blessed Thanksgiving with your loved ones.  We'll have tales to tell and censored photos to share when we return!
