Stories > View Story Commitment to Creative Excellence ~ Tammie Khan, Executive Director Houston Children's Museum Keynote speaker Tammie Kahn's visit to Bellaire Rotary coincided with her Children's Museum being honored by Forbes online as one of the best in the country (Click for 2-2-12 ABC13 Eyewitness News Story), with particular praise for its use of outdoor space, eco station, and flow station. Ms. Kahn has orchestrated real magic for the past 17 years as Executive Director of Houston's renowned Children's Museum, being responsible for its management, long term planning, and significant expansion projects. This very special place earned Parents' Magazine "#1 in the nation" ranking and also has been repeatedly named BEST MUSEUM IN HOUSTON, by Nickelodeon magazine, Child magazine, citysearch, and Channel 2 News. It is the highest-attended youth museum in the country for its size and serves more than 850,000 people every year with 14 galleries of hands-on exhibits. Kahn's vision of providing "new mind-blowing ways to engage children in developing 21st Century skills" has doubled the Museum's learning space and created an Institute for Family Learning that hones math, science & literacy skills. Their tag line is 'The Ultimate Playground for your Mind' - - and if you haven't visited there lately, you definitely SHOULD. It is truly a world of wonder for both children and adults. She is a former president of the Houston Museum District Association and before taking the helm at the Childrens Museum served as Associate Director of the Houston's Museum of Fine Arts.
