|

Renowned neuroscientist and New York Times bestselling author Dr. David Eagleman delighted Rotarians with some of the cutting edge neuroscience underpinning his latest best seller, Incognito ~ The Secret Lives of the Brain, and also offered insight into James Holmes' massacre at the Colorado theater: psychosis, psychopathy, and brain tumor are possibilities. Holmes' courtroom demeanor could be consistent with any of those, and detailed tests are necessary to narrow it down. David is science advisor for TNT's new TV series 'Perception' and is currently appearing in the Science Channel’s Morgan Freeman's Through the Wormhole feature, Can We Prevent Evil? Called possibly the best combination of scientist and fiction-writer alive, he directs Baylor College of Medicine's neuroscience research lab and has been profiled in the New Yorker, Texas Monthly, and Texas Observer, as well as on The Colbert Report, and Nova Science Now. David is best known for his work on time perception, synesthesia, and neurolaw. David was recently voted one of Houston's most stylish men, in addition to being featured on the cover of Italy's Style magazine as one of the "Brainiest, Brightest Idea Guys for 2012". His work of fiction, SUM, is an international bestseller published in 27 languages, and his book on the internet and civilization, Why the Net Matters, is available as an app for the iPad and as an eBook. Incognito: The Secret Lives of the Brain explores the neuroscience "under the hood" of the conscious mind. David is a member of Skyline Rotary and became a new father in February. He has been named a Next Generation Texas Fellow and a Guggenheim Fellow. Read a profile of David in The New Yorker: The Possibilian: What a brush with death taught David Eagleman about the mysteries of time and the brain. Rotarians snapped up all Eagleman books on hand after the meeting, as he graciously answered signed them and answered countless questions.
