Internet Security
Click to view image in actual size Anthony Buonospina gave an informative presentation about the many aspects of internet security and personal ID protection at our regular meeting on Wednesday, March 7th.

Anthony is a computer technology expert and owner of GRQ Innovations, Inc., specializing in custom computer software and networking.
He explained that internet identity theft is a lucrative and widespread crime, with reported cases increasing by up to 80% per year.  He described the many ways computer hackers and thieves can steal personal identity information through the internet, and some of the more effective methods one can use to lessen the risk.  He also emphasized the importance of using and updating effective anti-virus and anti-malware software, and of using uncommon (at least 10-character) passwords to access important computer files.
Anthony then described some of the most common methods thieves use to steal credit card information from computers, ATM's, retail transactions, and by "swiping" card information through casual (or close-proximity) contact during normal, everyday activities.  He stressed the importance of constantly reviewing credit card accounts, using single-use credit account numbers wherever possible, and of obtaining free annual credit reports from each of the three credit rating agencies.  His talk concluded with a vigorous Q&A session.
Anthony was the guest of Megan Aubin; they're shown above with Babylon Rotary President Chris Cunningham.
