| Chairman Alan Jones commenced the presentation of the Belmont Business Awards. These Awards are supported by the Belmont Business Association. Mark Telford, the secretary, was introduced representing the President who was unable to attend due to illness. A special feature on the Awards will be appearing in the Geelong Independent this week. Mark said that the Belmont Business Association was pleased to be associated with the Rotary Club of Belmont. The Association was very helpful to him when he started his small business not having been involved in small business before. The Association had forty members at the moment and he would encourage any Belmont businesses present to join. The Association represents and promotes businesses in Belmont. The Association has made representations to both State and Federal Members of Parliament to see what they can do to support members by working with the members. The Association has decreased its annual subscription fees by more than 50% to encourage members to join and in recognition of the present difficult economic climate. Mark congratulated all businesses that had been nominated
Alan reminded us that the Geelong Independent newspaper is a co-sponsor of the Awards. There are two major Awards- the TARS Personality Award and the Customer Service Award. There were 120 nominations involving 25 businesses. This is because an individual or a business can be nominated. The judges were a panel of BBA members and Rotarians.
