Our program last week was presented by the Board President of the Family Renew Community.
This program provides transitional housing to homeless families with children.
Mission Statement: Family Renew Community considers homelessness in Volusia County to be a problem worthy of major concern. To this end, Family Renew Community, in conjunction with faith based organizations, governmental bodies and the private and public sectors, works to provide the support, services, and transitional housing needed by homeless families with children. The purpose is to achieve both permanent housing and self-sufficiency.
Specific Objectives: 1. To serve homeless families 2. To aid such families with transitional housing from 6-24 months. 3. To help families establish a saving (housing) fund, a family budget, obtain a General Educational Development (GED) certificate, if needed, and, after a reasonable period, have the funds and stability to make the move to affordable housing in the community.
Minimum Client Requirements: 1. At least one parent of each family must be employed. 2. All families must consent to budget management and training. 3. All families must put money aside toward achieving permanent housing. At the least, this will involve establishing a bank savings account, to be veriied by presenting a bank statement each month to be reviewed and added to that family's client file. 4. All families must remain drug and alcohol free.
