MINUTES OF JULY 12,
2011 MEETING
MEMBERS IN
ATTENDANCE: to follow
QUEEN OF HEARTS: Lou Sinatra drew the 9 of Hearts (Ha, Ha his
magic did not work). The pot is now
$103.
Mitch read a letter from John Manna the coach from Relay for
Life confirming that $309,000 was raised recently. Thanks again to those members who
participated on behalf of such a wonderful cause.
PRESIDENT’S
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
We need overall assistance in outlining any new
fundraisers. David and Alexandria
stepped up to the plate and will participate as committee members.
We need to develop information as to who we are, what we do
and what we have accomplished and get this out to the community.
Our Board Meeting will be held shortly at Harvey’s office at
5:30. Tom will confirm the date.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Annual dues invoices given and emailed out by Laura. Please remit on or before July 16th.
($175.00)
Lou Sinatra announced that he received a letter from the
RYLA student thanking us for her participation which was sent prior to her
attendance. We are looking forward to
hearing from her after her experience with RYLA.
Lou’s daughter is in Germany for 10 weeks and works from
Monday through Friday and on the weekends travels to Paris, Switzerland, etc.,
etc., etc……….. wish we were young again.
However, she has worked very hard and deserves our congratulations.
Mitch played golf with his son, Jonathan which he always
enjoys.
It was Jim Birmbaum’s birthday and again our choir sang to
him.
Laura announced that her son was also in the Air Force in
Germany and although she worried, she did find that he enjoyed many of the
other countries while he was there.
John Wall called Adam Krainak on his cell phone so that we
could all wish him a big, big hello and get well. He is in the rehab at Montrose and anyone
that can send him a card or give him a call, would be appreciated.
Jerry Fox also announced that he was in Germany in 1977 for
two months and had a wonderful experience.
Harvey Berk mentioned that in Germany there are two words
“Smoking Kills” however there are actually glass rooms sponsored by the
cigarette companies which are filled with smoke so unfortunately there is no
connection between logic and smoking.
Marie Lorenzini announced she was running for re-election
for the Village of Nyack as Village Trustee.
Good Luck!
Alan announced that Christopher has now become a Junior
Counselor and his parents do not have to pay for camp after 10 years. He is working in Harriman. He now has learned about Social Security
Deductions but feels his parents owe him those deductions. HA, HA, HA.
Tom was watching the Navy Seals show over the television and
we truly appreciate the Navy Seals and all of our Armed Forces. Billy Nips is now training about 35 men who
are thinking about becoming Seals when they graduate in 2012. We wish each and every one of them good luck.
We also discussed the young man who caught Derek Jeter’s
3,000th hit baseball and gave it to Derek Jeter very willingly. Unfortunately this young man now has to pay
$6,000 in taxes for the tickets and other items he may have been given from the
Yankees. We all agree that Derek Jeter
should step up to the plate and help this young man for doing the right
thing…….
PROGRAM:
Ginny Wall “myself” had the program. My intention is to highlight each and every one
or our members on a regular basis within our newsletter. In order to do this. I thought we would start
our International Rotary President, Mr.Kalyan Banerjee from India.. Please see
attached picture. His motto this
year: “REACH WITHIN TO EMBRACE
HUMANITY. He is asking that we each
search within ourselves to understand that all of us, everywhere, have the
ssame dreams, hopes, aspirations and similar dilemmas. Then we can begin to understand hoe important
our work is.
3 Emphases:
Family….the core of our work;
Continuity: finding the things we
do well and taking them to the next level…Build upon our successes and alst,
“Change.” True change can only start
within us. We cannot share peace if we
do not have it to give……we cannot look after the whole word without first
looking after those closest to us: our
families, our clubs and our communities.
IN CLOSING: OUR
OUTGOING PRESIDENT, RAY, OUR ROTARY COWBOY, IS A TOUGH ACT TO FOLLOW……BUT I
HAVE AN ADVANTAGE: IT THERE IS ANYTHING
BIGGER AND BOLDER THAN A COWBOY……IT’S A COWBOY AND AN INDIAN TOGETHER!!!
The first member I chose to highlight is our incoming
President, Tom Martucci, for whom I was privileged to be the sponsor. His resume (attached) is incredibly
impressive with his IT experience. Tom
did help by putting in what he does in simple English terminology. He assesses corporation’s technology systems
and has is responsible to incorporate new systems with mergers, etc., buying
the equipment, training the employees, and having everything run
smoothing. Also, in your business
venture, i.e., accounts payable, you have to make sure they pay their invoices
and validate their invoices and their expenses.
This is incorporated with his responsibilities.
His new present position is assisting a company who has
acquired another business on June 1, will acquire a second one on September 1
and third one on November 1. Employee
counts will go from 25 to 150 and we know that Tom will have everything humming
smoothly although this is a complicated position; we have faith in Tom’s
knowledge and dedication.
Tom is married to Debbie with three wonderful boys……who have
kept him active as coach, mentor to their friends…..all through the years and
we now will continue as they become adults.
He and his family enjoy going to Pennsylvania quite often….
Respectfully submitted, Ginny
