Turning the Tide in Russia
Editor: Molly Merrow

Click to view image in actual size Ken McWhorter talked about how he started the first P&G Tide plant in Moscow, 1993.
Ken McWhorter, center, gave us a glimpse into the world of Moscow circa 1993-96, as he shared his experiences as a P&G executive on a mission to introduce Tide to Russia. In those days, the stores were still pretty empty, and it was hard to find a decent apartment, furniture, and even food. He had to deal with corruption, and expected bribes in setting up the new factory. He and his wife Evelyn made many friends there, and they have traveled back to visit many times, and marvel at the progress Moscow has made. In today's Moscow, you can find anything you can in our stores, but still at inflated prices. There is a growing middle class in Russia now. â€" Photo of Gianluca Bruno, Ken McWhorter and Larry Kent.
