| On a beautiful morning of June 2nd, 2012 several Rotarians from the Mason Deerfield Rotary Club handed out a wish list at Kroger to shoppers asking for donations to the Kings Food Pantry. The response was overwhelming with donations ranging to a single item to bags full of groceries...all very much appreciated.
After the collection which filled the back of an SUV, the items were taken to the food pantry located in South Lebanon and unloaded in to the store room. Kim Juilts of Kings Food Pantry accepted the donations with a smile. She gave a tour of the facility and explained how the program works. With the majority of donations coming in at the holiday season food drives in the summer are important to keep the shelves stocked. In 2011 the pantry helped on average 450 families a month and now it can be as high as 600 families in need. Items needed include nonperishable food, cleaning supplies, personal hygiene items, baby items and even over the counter medications. Cash donations are also welcome and can be mailed to Kings Food Pantry, P. O. Box 144, South Lebanon, 45065.
The Pantry is also beginning to hold counseling sessions for families to help them get back on their feet in this tough economy. A workshop for resume writing and interview skills has already been planned and those with a talent to share are welcome.
For club members it was a great time to get together with fellow Rotarians for a good cause and to meet some of the local community. With the success of the fundraiser plans are being made to repeat at least a couple of times in the upcoming months. |
