Welcome Captain Kangaroo 2009-10!
Editor: Cavanaugh Jr., Daniel

Bill Gardner's year got off to a great start when his phone rang as he started the meeting. He had to leave the room to take the call and when he returned he was transformed into...

no, not Superman... no, not one of the Village People (his favorite one is the construction worker in the short shorts)... but into Captain Kangaroo himself!!!

Captain K called upon Joe Davidson to deliver the Invocation and Rob Barber led us in the flag salute. Buffy Francuz led us in singing "God Bless America". As we ordered our food (no more buffet) and had it brought to us, the Captain went a little out of order and had us introduce our guests. Alan Goldman introduced his guest, our old friend George Plato, Cy Pierce introduced Christina Fields, Phil Tangalakis introduced Tom Stubbs, a Rotarian from Sonoma County, and Tim Messmer introduced his son Justin. Next Bill wanted to do the Welcome Song but there was a commotion in the crowd because The Captain forgot to introduce his guest, which happened to be his own wife, Sue! Then Cy was called upon to introduce our visiting Rotarian, who was already introduced by Phil, Tom Stubbs. Then we had our Welcome Song.

Announcements were next and the good Captain called upon President-Elect Linda Black. Linda informed us that on this Tuesday, July 14th, at 7 A.M there is a District Breakfast at the Westin Hotel near LAX. Bring school supplies! See Linda for more information. Next up was Rob Barber and he announced that August 13th through the 15th will be the fishing trip at Bishop Creek! Joel Forman came up and gave a gift to our President, it was a stuffed kangaroo! And finally, Clint Ehlers announced that his wife is 12 weeks pregnant, congratulations Clint!

Now it was fine time! It seems as though everyone has a gavel except Bill and everyone started striking the gavels on the table. The first fine went to Clint Ehlers, and because his wife is pregnant he got fined $100. Next, Craig Ferre got fined $40 because one of the girls couldn't go to Australia. Bryan Mooney was fined $50 for just showing up! And then, Richard Marcus was fined for calling Bill at 10:30 at night!

Tim Messmer then introduced our program from the Culver City Fire Department
