I was told by Steve Davidson that the he did the Invocation, that John Cluff recited the Pledge, and that Benjamin Buttons, I mean Rob Barber, led the Patriotic Song. We had some great guests including Santa Monica Rotarian Monte McCormick and former CC Rotarian Roger Barnes and his wife Lynne. Cartwright Sheppard handled the Welcome Song duties.
The next few minutes were devoted to announcements with Linda Black covering the District Calendar which included reminders of LA5's USC/UCLA lunch on November 10th at the Bonaventure Hotel, the District Breakfast also on November 10th, and PRLS on November 14th. Linda also mentioned that on December 2nd we are planning a baby shower at our regular meeting in anticipation of new arrivals in the Jones' and Ehlers' families. Finally, Linda reminded everyone of the Pampered Chef fundraiser, where just by ordering products from the Pampered Chef website, one can contribute to the Culver City Rotary Club.
Chris King then took the stand and asked the Club members to consider going on the District trip to Ecuador scheduled for March 18th through the 22nd of next year. Chris also reminded us that on November 18th there is a big fundraiser for the Rotoract club - a USC/UCLSA Bowling night. Please see Chris for more details. Craig Ferre announced our next International Project - hosting two girls, sisters Vanessa and Amanda Stoicov, from Manningham, Australia. They are arriving on December 28th and are heading back to Australia on January 23rd.
Next Darlene Kiyan spoke about the YMCA Kickoff Mixer and thanked the members of the Club for their support of the Y. Darlene then told us about a girl who had waited for years to attend the Youth in Government event but could not raise the $1,000 needed to participate. Chuck Perelman immediately said that he would donate $100 towards her fees and in an "I am Spartacus" moment, nine
more Rotarians volunteered to give $100 each enabling the young woman to attend the event.
Carmela Raack was up next and she thanked the Club for bringing in candy for the Halloween event at Mount St. Mary's in Downtown LA. She also asked that each member check their personal information on the Information Guide and make sure that everything listed is accurate. Ed Little concluded the serious business portion of the meeting by presenting President Bill with a check for $810 - proceeds from our participation in the Irrigation Regulator Program that we worked on with the West Basin Water District.
President Bill kind of lost of control of things during Fine Time so as far as I am concerned there were no fines, at least none that I could keep track of. When the chaos subsided, the Program portion of the meeting began which was the Club Assembly, a time to review our budget, talk about upcoming events, and plan for the balance of the year. Thanks to all who participated in the club Assembly.
Have a great week Rotarians!
