President Kyle’s Farewell Message from the June publication of The Larchmont Chronicle

The Wilshire Rotary Club will conclude the Rotary year 2011-12 on June 30. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as President for the year and I am proud of our club and its many achievements.

The transition to into the new Rotary year is marked by the Rotary International Convention. This yea it was held in Bangkok, Thailand. Over 34,000 Rotarians from every corner of the world gathered for 5 days to celebrate the accomplishments of Rotary International and to strategize about the upcoming year.

The 2011-12 Rotary International President, Kaylan Banerjee gave an eloquent farewell speech asking Rotarians to continue the fight to end polio and global poverty. He reminded us that “what’s important in Rotary isn’t what we say. It’s what we do, and who we are.”

The 2012-13 incoming Rotary International President, Sakuji Tanaka, asked Rotarians to achieve “Peace through Service”. He said, “We know that every one of us has something to give, and everyone has something to teach.”

With approximately 1.2 million members globally, Rotary offers a unique forum to assist communities locally and yet be part of an organization making a global impact. Crossing the physical borders along with religious and political boundaries, ethics in business and “Service above Self’ are the commonalities that bind Rotarians together.

We continue to extend our invitation to attend your first meeting as our guest! We meet at the historic Ebell of Los Angeles located at 743 South Lucerne Boulevard every Wednesday at noon for lunch.
