During this Rotary year Wilshire Rotary Club firmly established itself as “The Friendliest Club in the Region” and Best Club for Make-Up Meetings. Our club welcomed visiting Rotarians from around the world and hosted members of the Group Study Exchange from Chennai, India. Several Wilshire Rotarians traveled to Puerto Rico on the District International Trip, and a small delegation of us endured the unbearable heat and humidity of Bangkok, Thailand to attend the Rotary International Convention. We had a productive and fun year. Here is what we did….

MEMBERSHIP: President Kyle inducted seven new members: Bill Boeck, Sandy Boeck, Joe Hooven, Richard Lee, Patrick MacKellan, Alma Sexton, and Robert Terry.

THE ROTARY FOUNDATION: Wilshire Rotarians, Sandy Boeck, Richard Lee, Patrick MacKellan, Ray Schuldenfrei, Alma Sexton, and Robert Terry were recognized as first-time contributors to The Rotary Foundation and each received a Paul Harris Fellow pin:

Wilshire Rotarians, Margie Christoffersen, Maurine Doerken, and Evelyn Mazza, were recognized for their continual giving to The Rotary Foundation. They were presented with Paul Harris Fellow pins that were adorned with one or more sapphires indicating their level of giving.

Wilshire Rotarians donated $7,676.00 to The Rotary Foundation from the net profits selling pumpkins and Christmas trees.

WINNERS' NIGHT: Wilshire Rotarians raised an impressive $18,589.00 selling raffle tickets and purchasing silent auction items.

COMMUNITY SERVICE: Wilshire Rotarians volunteered for Meals on Wheels and St. Vincent’s Soup Kitchen and collected and donated toys and board games for kids during the Christmas season.

VOCATIONAL SERVICE: Wilshire Rotary sponsored Leah Hansen who won first place the District Music Contest. Wilshire Rotarians distributed 762 dictionaries to third graders at six neighborhood elementary schools and the Wilshire Rotary Foundation awarded $2,000 in scholarship money to two Los Angeles High School graduating seniors.

DISTRICT CONFERENCE AWARDS: Wilshire Rotary received the Club of Excellence award for Communications and Overall Giving to The Rotary Foundation.
