RYLA in the Dominican Republic
Editor: Elliott, Bob

Click to view image in actual size In August of 2010 Brian Saxton and RYLA scholar Josh Marzic traveled to the Dominican Republic for eight days of activities related to bio-sand filters and other Rotary projects.  Their host and interpreter was Daniel Barrett, director of Rotary Programs at Good Samaritan Hospital in La Romana.  Pictured below are recipients of a Home Depot "clean" water bucket.

Josh and Brian spent time explaining the importance of keeping the bucket free of contamination and to use it exclusively for the clean output of the water filters.

This was a life changing experience for Josh; his first flight, experiencing daily life in a foreign country, opportunity to practice his French and Spanish, and a great opportunity to provide service where the need is great.  His leadership challenge is to begin planning for a December 2011 trip with College Mentoring participants.
