| A Gem in our Midst! |

There's
a very valuable gem right here in Glendale and it's possible we could lose
it. Since 1925 the Alex Theater (or Alexander
Theater, as it was known when it first opened its doors) has been an invaluable asset to our city. Last
Thursday, Ellissa Glickman, the acting director of the Theater, brought us up to
date on what is happening with the Alex. With the economic downturn, re-development funds are no
longer available to support the theater.
This
is a class theater and it is vitally important that the City finds ways to bring the
Alex back under its' ownership.

Once
again we lost our regular meeting room at the Hilton. Except for the fact that
you have to dodge around the columns to hear and see, we seemed to have figured
out how to make the room work for us.
Hopefully, we should be back in one of our regular rooms in the near
future.
It
was good to have Stephen Bache's son visiting with us and Elizabeth Manasserian had some
good news - her son has just been accepted to UC Davis. Program Chairman George
Saikali announced his happiness in learning that his nephew has been accepted at UCLA. And, Chuck Rienhart just had a joyous ride in
a blimp. Lots
of our Rotarians have family, relatives and friends who have graduations going
on and we congratulate you all.
I
hope you are making sure to attend the demotion party for President Bill at the
at the San Antonio Winery on Friday, June 29th.
It's going to be a doozie!!!!
