Thousands of yellow, rubber ducks will race down the Washougal River at noon Sunday, July 29 to raise money for local service projects and scholarships.

The Ducky Derby, held every summer during Camas Days, is Camas-Washougal Rotary's largest fundraiser and has raised more than $133,000 since its inception in 1995. Over 90% of the proceeds from the Derby directly benefit the projects supported by Camas-Washougal Rotary. Each year, more than $10,000 goes directly to support local area high school student scholarships.
ImageThe public is invited to watch the event at noon July 29 from the Third Avenue Bridge over the Washougal River. The race begins when a front-loader donated by Nutter Corporation tips its bucket and unloads nearly 5000 plastic ducks into the water. From there the current takes over and the ducks dash to the finish line. The fastest ducks down the river will win some great prizes for those who’ve adopted them!

Ducks can be adopted for $5 each by purchasing a Ducky Derby ticket. Tickets are available Monday-Friday at Columbia Litho, 302 NE Sixth Ave. in Camas, WA or at the C-W Rotary booth from 10 am to 8 pm on July 27 and 28 at the Camas Days festival in downtown Camas.

The grand prize is a Hawaii condo plus airfare for two, donated by Riverview Bank. 2nd prize is a gold bracelet worth $600, donated by Michael Nutter Jeweler. Many other prizes will also be awarded, last year there were 40 in all, but the real winners are the kids and adults who benefit from Rotary service projects supported by the Derby!

Funds are raised through both sponsorships and ticket sales, and help support Rotary initiatives such as high school scholarships, Santa’s Posse, Backpack Project, Dictionary’s for 3rd Graders, SHARE House, Youth Exchange, Polio Eradication, Meals on Wheels, Young Women in Action, Walk and Knock and many others.

Major Ducky Derby sponsors are Columbia Resource Company, Waste Connections Inc., Riverview Community Bank, Michael Nutter Jewelry, Youngevity, WVNP, The Columbian and Security Signs.
