| My RYLA Experience- Domenic Baima |
Editor: Richard L. Roberts

Introduced by proud dad, Breven Baima. Domenic is a junior at AGHS and will be seventeen next Monday.
Domenic
said his dad would transfer him back to Mission Prep School if he would apply to attend RYLA. He still didn't want to go but he found out that they served pizza at the interview so he thought he would go with a friend for support; the friend never showed. He was interviewed by Steve Curry and Steve Schumann. He was nervous during the interview and was surprised that he was accepted.

He was so stressed that he slept on the bus all the way to the four day camp. He quickly found that all of the kids were great, supported each other and were a 100% positive. It gave him an incredible feeling. They attended classes on public speaking, physical education, mental improvement, etc. The instructors were great and motivating. One speaker was an NBA star and sports announcer who was phenomenal and the kids wouldn't let him go home and wanted to hear more. The instructor said it's all about goals, courage and attitude.
There was a night talent show and he was impressed with the kindness and support given to the performers by the audience. At the diversity class, they had to tell and learn about each other and it was an awakening moment for Domenic. He gained a lot of self confidence.
There were over 190 that attended, three girls for every boy and that was a good thing. A big selling point to attract future male attendees. There was a dance; lights were on; then went off and it turned out to be a very good time. "A sweaty moment," he said. At the end, when everyone was getting ready to head home, there was a lot of hugging, goodbyes and tears shared around. A 'face book' has already been established and it has been agreed to get together again, this time at Magic Mountain. He said the camp was very good for his future; it gave him confidence, communication and social skills and the importance of being active in your community. He thanked the Club for sponsoring him. Dad should be proud! Domenic's presentation was well done.
