As usual the program was called to order by our Pres. Ben Aranda and the propers were observed. We welcomed back our members (Guila Maramba, Marc Caratao and John Mina) who got back from the Philippines to be with the delegates from the US to attend the Inauguration of the new Philippine President Noynoy Aquino. It was an exciting evening due to the topic of Matching Grants. This was a major interest by our newly inducted members. Fortunately, a last minute call by our Pres. Ben to the "guru of MG", a man with many accolades and awards in Rotary history, one of those people who put long hours and sleepless nights to make possible, who is now known as "RC Historic Filipinotown". He is currently District Newsletter Editor, worn many hats in the District level, Past Pres.of LA5, he's responsible for our club's first MG success, loves San Miguel Negra beer, our dear friend none other than Marc Leeka. With him was his lovely wife Pearl who is currently with RC Hollywood. As Marc spoke articulately about his love for MG and the many ways of working the process and involving host clubs in getting it done (talking about teamwork), his story telling makes it more fascinating and easier to comprehend. As the members were all ears listening diligently, they try to remember every word he said. This was proven later on when Pres. Ben asked questions which the membership was able to answer without a doubt. At the end of the evening, he received a standing ovation, was awarded our club banner and as a token of our appreciation was given a 6 pack of his favorite beer. Also, that evening our new member Terry Gubatan brought in a guest, Shelon Douglas and briefly introduced her as she talked about "financial literacy for the youth". She will be revisiting our club on the 26th of Aug. to elaborate further as what she does for the community.
