The Historic Filipinotown Festival commemorates the designation of the area as Historic Filipinotown. Historic Filipinotown consists of working-class, multi-ethnic neighborhoods, about 3 miles west of Downtown Los Angeles. It faces the typical urban challenges such as maintaining a clean environment and safeguarding its youth from gangs and drugs.

About 30 young and old volunteers helped in the street clean-up, including 5 members from the Rotary Club of Historic Filipinotown.

For the 5k, about 750 participated, about 300 of whom were younger than 17 years old. RC of Historic Filipinotown worked with a number of Rotary Clubs in District 5280 to generate participation and support for the event.
