Relief for Earthquake Victims
Click to view image in actual size Please read an email from Evelyn about the earthquake in Indonesia. Possibly discuss at the next board meeting to see if Hart Rotary wants to assist in some way.
Hi...

I've got a new email again from my district about the disaster at my home country...
And thank GOD my family was safe...

Here is the mail:

ROTARY RELIEF REACHING THE UNREACHED
Coping with series of disasters in D3400

Just as Rotary D3400 of Indonesia closed its relief post in West Java after distributing some 1100 tents/ShelterBoxes and provided medical care and logistics for almost four weeks following the earthquake of 7.3 Richter there, West Sumatra was shaken by ANOTHER earthquake, at 7.6 Richter strength last 30 September 2009!!!

It has left thousands of people homeless in the city of Padang and its surroundings of Pariaman and Bukittinggi, the total victims dead still escalating. Three villages have been totally buried by landslides triggered by the quake, hundreds trapped, now all dead under the rubble. Overland access was temporarily cut off except by motorcyles, as most of the roads had split apart, or landslides had cut off most of the mountainous roads towards Padang.

As of this Day 5 after the quake, overland access is now open again, telecommunications have improved and it is getting easier to contact our field people, food and water are available, although some remote areas have yet to receive aid.

Together with our partner, Jakarta Rescue, we have helped rescue and evacuate people in some totally devastated and difficult-to-access areas, particularly in the Pariaman Regency, and we are still providing medical aid to the people in that area. Our 1.5 tons of medical supplies that we shipped to Padang have been depleted, and we are planning on shipping medical supplies this week again.

600 pre-packaged boxes of rice, canned sardines, instant noodles, cooking oil, baby food, tea bags and bottled water are currently being packed by Rotaractors in Jakarta, ready to be shipped to the site this weekend. Each box should help get a family fed through at least about a week.

These boxes of logistics will also accompany some 600 ShelterBoxes being distributed in the area, contributed by ShelterBox, of which Rotary D3400 have helped bring into the country.

If you would like to help, please address your donations, whatever the amount is, to:

and send a confirmation of your contribution with your name, Rotary Club and total amount and date of transfer to Srisetiowati, Disaster Relief Committee D3400, at: srisetio@gmail.com.

If your club would rather participate in a joint program during the reconstruction phase, please send a short email to the above email address and mention your interest. We will help find a partner club to work on either a renovation of a school, medical facility, or other public facility in any devastated area in West Java or West Sumatera.

Your contribution and participation, once again, shall be highly appreciated!

Thank you, and warm regards from Indonesia D 3400!
