Good morning!
I was having many techical difficulties trying to post in Detroit after Friday, so this is a catch up! So sorry to leave everyone hanging!
Things overall with the trach surgery have gone as they had hoped. However, Dad goes into the coughing jags so hard that he feels as if he can't breath and almost gags and can't catch his breath. This is not something good to watch and very scary for us, but the doctors say it is all part of what is expected after having a surgery like Dad has had.
We are also now dealing with his rapid, irregular heart rate and this is being treated with medications. Due to the fact that Dad has had this in the past and does not know when he is having these episodes, they will be putting him on medications for his heart as well as possibly a blood thinner down the road. He are hoping this will all be temporary, but as long as it keeps Dad safe and well, it might be the thing to do without choice. His diabetes (though he does not need meds), and the history of this heart rate puts him at risk for a stroke if it is not monitored.
Dad is VERY down, emotionally. We have had a very hard week and all he wants is to come home to GR! We have cried many tears together the last few days, with more to come I am sure. I want him home too, but we do not want to make another stop, so we want to go from Detroit to rehab, with nowhere else in between. It has been a long road and it is not easy, once again, to be far fom home!
I returned home last night and will keep in touch quite often with Mom and post when I know more info. We do not plan on being able to return to GR as planned by Thursday, unless miracluos changes come our way.
Please keep all words of encouragement coming-I have never seen Dad so down in a very long time, and he needs all we can get! Thank you and I will post more later.
