I was reading a professional journal the other day as part of my continuing education requirements as a licensed dentist when I came upon an article written by a fellow dentist. He wrote about living with purpose which got me thinking. We all want to live our lives with purpose because it gives meaning and brings relevance to our existence. When all is said and done, everybody wants to leave an "imprint" behind, to borrow a word from the Reverend Dr. Randy Steele.
As Rotarians, we have a wonderful opportunity to make our mark in the lives of people around us through service. Isn't that a huge part of why we all decided to join Rotary? Surely, the weekly fellowship brings joy and richness to our world. But it is the service projects that fill all the little voids, much like sand filling spaces around the rocks in a glass jar. Think about it - how cool is that for all of us to come together during our annual fundraiser and raise lots of money just to give all away to those who need it more than we do!
This week, we have Elaine Gennawey and Jerry McCloskey, two of our long-time Rotarians, who will give Senior Craft Talks. As a junior member of our club, I am eager to learn about their purpose-driven lives!
Yours in Rotary,
Bill Nguyen, DDS
