Dave Shroyer is doing really well!

Announcements: Congrats to Ed Saboe who turned in his red Badge for a Blue Badge as an official member of Littleton Rotary.

Dave Lorentz is looking to our club to help with fundraising for the Golf Tournament Sept 7. Hole sponsors start at $200, and we need donations for the prizes and auction. Notify Dave of any contacts or to provide help.

July 15 the 5450 District will be going to the zoo. Entrance fee includes lunch and special passes to the new elephant exhibit. Register on the district website.

Lottery drawing: Scott Cantine sold tickets, including a winning one to Dave Beall. However, the Ace of Hearts is still in the mix, and the pot grows for next week.

Program: Honorary Rotarian Linda Newell presented our program. She is the State Senator for District 26, and she reviewed the new borders of her district. She describes herself as a moderate Democrat, but emphasized her bipartisan approach. She was especially proud of the State Legislature’s balanced budget which received votes from 94 out of 100 legislators. They worked hard to limit cuts for funding of higher education and had zero cuts for K through 12 funding. One million dollars will go to provide assistance for veterans with housing, job training and mental health services. Funding also will help decrease the waiting list for the State Developmental Disabilities Program.

The Economy and Jobs were the theme of this year’s legislative session. Senator Newell worked for a Business Expansion and Retention Bill which died during the last days of the session, but hopefully can be readdressed next year. She reviewed the Film Production Jobs in Colorado Act, the Fair Discipline in Public Schools Act, and the Organized Retail Crime Theft Act.
