Out-going President Robert Blay asked for volunteers for the Arapahoe County Fair Beer sales, one of our club’s biggest fundraisers. Thanks to Mark Swanson, Frank Clayton, Terry Foley, Jon Moore, Darlee Whiting, and Perry Nissler for stepping up!
Robert also expressed thanks to Bob Baker as Sargent at Arms for his work each week in the set up for our meetings, and to Russ Strandberg for his job at planning programs for our weekly meetings.
Gary Lietch shared a short video reminding us of how the Rotary International Foundation continues to do good in the world.
Past District Governor Dave Beall lead installation of President Scott Taylor and the Board of Directors.
Scott then shared pictures and videos from his trip to Thailand to the Rotary International Convention and to Cambodia. The theme for 2012-2013 is Peace through Service and Scott was amazed by the Peace Scholars that spoke. Mohammed Yunas, the winner of the 2006 Peace Prize spoke about his micro-credit loan process. In addition, Scott shared about one break-out session he attended where Bruce French and Food Plant Solutions are developing and distributing a list of nutrient rich foods that are best for growing in different climates and countries.
Scott then shared his goals for the Rotary Club for this year:
1. Promote who we are. We give over $100,000 to the community. We need to make sure the community knows about us and what we are doing.
2. Add 2 members each quarter. Membership will be a priority.
3. Do our projects more often and with more visibility. We hope to get the high school students and their families more involved in our club and its activities.
4. Hold monthly social activities for members and potential members.
