Pedaling to Success-Bikes back AGAIN with Klein, Cy-Fair, Spring ISD
Editor: Graham Sharp

The kids are back in school for a new year, and our bikes are back again for the 10th year, being delivered immediately after Labor Day to 33 schools! 66 bikes for 2011 Fall semester have been ordered, delivered and assembed this month (August) at Wal-Mart. A co-ordinated delivery was made to the schools September 6 and 7, placing the bikes on display for several months, as a motivational tool prior to the final drawings in December.

This time is the last time as pre-assembled units. January 2012 will see us order 66 bike kits online for local assembly. This is not the first time we have tackled the assembly process, and we did indeed learn a great deal from our previous experience.

Next January's assembly line is planned for bike kit acceptance and assembly to be completed in one day. Two teams will work. One concentrating on bikes and fun, the other concentrating on fun and cooking; a barbecue cookout is planned for the teams. A great deal of fun, club publicity and satisfaction is planned, with members from nearby clubs joining us in the project. ALL will be welcome

The program, now in its' 10th year provides bikes for KISD, Spring, and CFISD elementary school kids who maintain perfect attendance and B average grades over a certain period of weeks each semester. Four bikes are given to each member school every year. The names of children achieving the standard are placed in a drawing, with a boy and girl each receiving the award. Two bikes are presented each semester, but  it is strongly emphasized to each student who  qualifies for the final drawing,  that they are themselves winners, by having achieved their goal!

The program has been tremendously well acclaimed by the districts and principals, who credit increased attendance and better grades to the program's success.

Through careful management and purchasing, Champions Sunrise has been able to expand program membership from 13 to 33 schools for the 2011-2012 year. This is why we are reverting to our idea of buying 'kits' on a bulk basis, shipping them to Spring, and holding assembling 'parties' at a local member's business premises. The ultimate aim is to include all of our area elementary schools in the program. The More the Merrier!
