HOW TO PROPOSE A MEMBER
-
Locate a person in the community who you believe would make a good
Rotarian by asking yourself the following questions:
A. Is he or she a community leader?
B. Is he or she a professional, executive, manager or in a avocation which
Would be a benefit to our club?
C.
Is he or she able to control his or her own time?
D.
Does he or she have integrity?
E.
Would he or she meet the standards of the four-way test? If so, propose him or her for membership.
-
Contact the Club Secretary and ask for a membership proposal form.
-
Fill it out completely, including telephone numbers and return it to the Club
Secretary. The proposal for the time being shall be kept confidential except as otherwise provided in the procedure. Invited guests are always welcome at Rotary Meetings but no public announcements shall be made of the guest's interest in becoming a member nor that the guest has been proposed until membership is announced by the Club. This confidentiality is very important to circumvent any embarrassment of the prospect or the Club.
-
Then the following will occur:
A The Classification Committee will assign or verify the classification.
B. The Membership Committee will evaluate his or her integrity and
reputation in the community and his or her business, avocation or profession.
C. The Board will review the recommendations of the Classification and
Membership Committees and approve or disapprove the application.
D.
If the application is approved the proposed member's name and
classification will be published in the club bulletin. If no one objects
within 10 days, the member is approved. (If objections are received, the Board would proceed in accordance with the Bylaws to review the application.)
5. After the member is approved the Club Secretary so notifies the proposer.
The proposer then invites the member and his or her spouse to attend an
Introduction to Rotary or Rotary Information meeting. This is an informal
meeting conducted by the Rotary Information Committee to inform the
prospective member of the duties, responsibilities, including attendance
requirements, fees, dues and privileges of membership. The member is
then extended the invitation to become a member of HoustonHeights
Rotary Club.
6. When the proposed member pays the fees and dues, a mutually agreed
Introduction to the club will be set.
7. The last part is the introduction of the new member at a regular Rotary
Meeting which will require a few comments from the proposer regarding
the new members background. The proposer/Club President will
welcome him or her (and spouse) to the Club and give him or her a Rotary
pin, certificate of membership, club roster and bibb to be worn for four club meetings.
8. The above process takes approximately 6-8 weeks to complete.
