If you will build it they shall come...
Editor: Grassini, Anna

Maybe fields of dreams don't just come about in the cornfields of Iowa--maybe you can find them in the innercity of Houston and they give children a safe place to play in a team. Our club proudly sponsors a Little League team in the inner city--but this story really is about a father and son who had a vision....
Ask Brad Weber when he joined our club--and it will not seem that long. In fact, he only came to River Oaks in the fall of 2007. In June 2009 he was honored by our Club as Rotarian of the Year. But Brad's roots in this club are older. His dad, who passed away in the Summer of 2007, had been a member here and was passionate about helping kids get involved in little league so that they would stay out of trouble after school. This affair was a family one that became a passion for the River Oaks Rotary Club, which has sponsored a Little League team on a regular basis. Brad and his dad were instrumental in the development of several baseball fields, including the Eric Hilton Field behind Wharton Elementary as part of the LIttle League Urban Initiative. The River Oaks Country Club donated the money for the flag post --but, most importantly, it sends volunteers to referee games and sponsors a team so that kids can afford to play. Want to get involved? Come ask Brad for more details! Or see more of the story of how the fields came about... http://www.littleleague.org/media/newsarchive/03_2006/06erichiltonfield.htm
