Dave Poirier, who was born in St. Nicholas, PE, became a member of the Summerside Police Force after graduating from the Atlantic Police Academy in 1978. Rising through the ranks, he became Chief in 2006. During his police career, Dave has received two Life Saving Awards and was also recognized for the role he played in rescuing several race horses when fire struck the Summerside Raceway in 1982.
With over 30 years in policing Dave has contributed his expertise through participation in many professional endeavours including the Executive of the PEI Chief's of Police, representing the City on the development of the new provincial Police Act, member of the Canadian Police Information Centre Advisory Committee, provincial Intelligence Steering Committee and the Crime Prevention Advisory Committee.
Dave has established an excellent rapport with the business community and youth of Summerside through his tireless efforts to provide instruction and presentations on all aspects of policing and the Criminal Code.
But Dave's service to the community isn't confined solely to his career as a police offer. He is Past President and Board member of the Prince County Family Service Bureau and regularly volunteers with the St. Eleanor's Lions Club, Credit Union Place, Cancer Society and the Three Oaks & SIS breakfast programs. And most recently, Dave has become an active member of the Summerside Rotary Club
Dave is married to Ruby and has three children Bobby, Amy & Jody along with two Step-Sons, Keenan & Trevor.
