Rotary began in 1905 when four service-minded professionals agreed to meet weekly for lunch and to rotate the weekly meeting among their offices, hence "Rotary Club". The first official Rotary Club meeting was held soon thereafter in Chicago, IL on February 23, 1905 with the original four professionals in attendance. The implementation of their vision for Rotary has expanded exponentially over the last century, yet their view of service as a worthy enterprise has never changed.
Through Rotary International's "Polio Plus" program, polio will soon be the first disease to be wiped from the face of the Earth, and that’s only the beginning. We provide clean drinking water through sustained wells to millions of people around the world every day through our international service projects.
We also give a hand up to people around the world whose poverty stricken conditions contribute to the worldwide epidemics of mankind. We do all this in the first five minutes of everyday, just by being an involved Rotarian.
The Rotary Club of Fleming Island brings that same passion and commitment to Fleming Island and surrounding Clay County communities in our own service projects. We're actively engaged with our youth through the Interact programs we sponsor at Fleming Island High School and St Johns Country Day School. We support local service efforts such as The Clay County Dental Clinic, Quigley House, Salvation Army, and Habitat for Humanity with our active service involvement and fundraising campaigns. Our Club is also proud to be involved with the production of Clay County's largest annual cultural event, Concert on the Green.
We are a CLUB of friends and colleagues who look forward to our fellowship and company at our weekly breakfast meetings each Wednesday. We're from all walks of life and various professions who believe that we can make a difference by being involved in our community and enjoy the fellowship in doing so. We dare ourselves to envision our community and world to be that better place that so many speak dream about.
Rotary is an organization of professional persons united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards, and help build Peace through Service in the world. We're excited about the things we can accomplish and how we impact the lives of people around the word with our projects that start in Clay County. Our Club members do that every day! |
