| 24 Hour MegaSwim - Sydney 23rd and 24th June 2012 |
|
It’s on again! If you love swimming and want to make a difference to the lives of people with MS, then prepare yourself for the number one swimming event of 2012!
The MS 24 hour MegaSwim will be held in Sydney on the weekend of 23rd and 24th of June 2012 at the prestigious Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre, Homebush with support from the Rotary Club of Sydney and other local Rotary Clubs.
|
This will be the fifith MegaSwim in Sydney and it has raised over $600,000 for sufferers of MS. In 2011 we raised over $200,000 and we want to do better this year. The money is used to fund the Go-for-Gold Scholarship program for MS sufferers.
So to be a part of the 2012 MegaSwim, gather a team of up to 15 swimmers and divide the 24 hours up between you. All swimmers can swim as many times as they want. The only condition is that there has to be someone in the pool at all times!
All profits will be going towards people living with MS, and prizes are awarded to teams who raise the most funds. This is not just a race! Points are awarded for times, distance and funds raised. There is also a prize for the best dressed team – an opportunity to engage your creative talents.
All sorts of teams are encouraged; work teams, sporting teams, family teams, swim club teams or even a group of friends. The event is a fantastic team building exercise or off season training opportunity.
If the 24 hour swim seems a bit daunting but you are still keen to be a part of the event, apply to be a volunteer through the website or contact one of the people below.
Company Sponsorship is also encouraged in the form of team support, donations, matching fundraising or products for giveaways and prizes on the day. Platinum and Gold sponsors will be eligible to have their logos printed on the back of the event shirts.
Places in the swim are limited so make sure you enter your team on-line.
ABOUT MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS (MS)
MS is the most common disease of the central nervous system among young Australians, affecting almost three times as many women as men. While the average age of diagnosis is 30, it can be diagnosed at any age. Common symptoms include temporary blindness, difficulties with speech and loss of balance and coordination.
There is no known cause or cure for MS. Through an extensive network of centres, branches, support groups and health services, the MS Australia provides specialist programs to people with MS, their families, carers, friends and health care professionals, until we ultimately find a cure.
