Ms. Tagornak was a very interesting speaker, as she spoke both in English and in her native tongue - Inuktuktuk. She explained how the Inuit Katujjiqatigiingit provides support by assisting in the networking of of Inuit in Yellowknife. They organize social events for the Yellowknife Inuit, they promote and maintian the Inuit culture and language, and represent the political and otehr views and positions of the Inuit in Yellowknife.
The Inuit Katujjiqatigiit believe that their values are anchored in Inuit culture and language; they are focused on and responsive to Inuit needs; they respect and embrace Inuit diversity; the respect confidentiality; they respect all individuals, and; the Inuit Katujjiqatigiit maximize the potential of individuals.
This society provides programs focused on education, training, prevention and other health care. The local Centre for Northern Families have partnered up with this society to support it by helping in areas of housing, health care, education and toddler programs.
