Click to view image in actual size Hey Jim! I'm about to hit my seven months mark so I thought I'd send you an email and let you know how I'm doing here.
After all the crazy things that went on in February, things have calmed down immensely and my exchange seems to be back on course. Last week was March break here, and i spent the entire time with my host family in Germany. They go cross-country skiing there every year, but because of the abnormal lack of snow right now, we had to drive extra far. We ended up about 750 KM away in this small town called Steingaden, which is only almost in the Alps, so I could see the mountains from my bedroom window! We were lodging in a very quaint little chalet which was especially fun because it had a kitchen, so I baked everyday! I haven't baked since I got to Belgium and I used to do it all the time back home so it was incredibly enjoyable..and my host parents definitely didn't mind either. I actually made cinnamon buns one day and, if you can believe it, my host parents had never in their lives eaten them. They didn't even know what they were! On days when we didn't stay in, we were busy from eight in the morning until eight at night. My parents love to have things on the go, so there was never a dull moment! We did a lot of hiking so I got to see some of the most incredible views ever. One day we hiked up a mountain and when we looked down we could see a beautiful castle below us with a lake and mountains behind it. Sometimes, with all the man-made beauty in the world, it's easy to forget that some of the most magical things are from mother nature. The castle we saw is actually a very famous castle because the Disney one is modeled after it! I've never seen the Disney one, but if it's anything like the one in Germany, it must be spectacular! Then, the same day we visited this castle, we drove down to Austria, just so I could stand in another country, which was incredibly cool! I'm so lucky with how much I've been able to do here and how great my host family is. Anyways, I have to go here because my friend is coming over and we're going to have a bake sale to raise money for ShelterBox to help Japanese survivors! Talk to you soon, Sam
